At 5:00, Otis Livingston was at Jets headquarters for the introduction of the head coach and general manager, and then he announced that Krystle Rich, standing next to him, is the newest member of the CBS New York sports team. She posted that she'll be reporting for NY, Philly and CBS Sports.

First impression a few minutes in......CLEAN SIMPLE EUROPEAN. Im impressed. I dont hate this. Margaret Brennan's audio was garbage. This is brilliant. This is what network evening newscast should look like. WOW.

This doesn't need to be in the WCBS thread.

She is married to KYW sports director Don Bell.

Interesting to see Kristine Johnson anchoring a CBS News Special Report on the DC plane crash shortly after 10:34 last night. Then Dick Brennan did the local tease at around 10:58, but Kristine anchored the local news solo, with Dick reporting from the newsroom. (Jessica Moore was already in DC specifically to cover the RFK, Jr. nomination hearing, which turned into covering the federal funding freeze and reversal, which then became reporting on the crash.)

Oh that explains that I was about to say that would be really quick to get from New York to Washington. That’s a 4 hour drive.

Apparently, it looks like the CBS Special Reports will be done by CBS News 24/7 correspondents and not Maurice and John. Maybe Kristine will do these late ones since there probably won't be any anchors there after the Daily Report ends. Of course, it's just my guess, let's see what the next ones will be like.

Chris Welch anchored the earlier special report just after 10 p.m. Not sure if they had any in the 9:00 hour.

Looking on Alice Gainer’s Facebook she posted about Maurice on his last day, someone commented asking who the replacement is and she replied no decision has been made yet. It seems the main contenders are Dick and Jessica. I’m a little surprised we haven’t seen Alice or Doug more in the run but I guess we’ll see. Maybe a Chris and Kristine reunion lol

WCBS sure isn't acting like that.  Perhaps viewer feedback was not as positive as they hoped in his test broadcasts.  One would think that with many months since DuBois move was announced, they would have a plan that seamlessly puts in place the new team.

I don’t think he was hired as Maurice’s replacement. He was likely hired as general assignment reporter/fill-in anchor. If he was hired as Maurice’s replacement he already would’ve been sitting next to Kristine, plus none of his socials or CBS bio reflect that.

While there is no word on who will replace Maurice, it looks like the 5pm replacement slot is as follows:
Monday - Wednesday: Jessica Moore.
Thursday - Friday: Dick Brennan.

I haven't been watching the 11pm news. Kristine has been anchoring alone?

That’s what it seems. It also looks like when Dick fills in he does the 8pm. Yesterday Jessica did the noon with Cindy covering Adams. I’m not sure if Dick does the 11 but I’ll assume Jessica does not.

Yeah it seems to be a split between Dick and Jessica. Although I was initially in favor of Dick, an all-women Jessica/Kristine pairing at 5pm would be interesting. Both have been exclusively filling in on the 5pm, and Kristine has consistently done the 6pm and 11pm solo (it seems this will be for the foreseeable future). It seems Lonnie has been retaining his normal schedule so far.

I have not seen Lonnie at 6. He’s been doing the 5 and 11.  I’ve seen John and Vanessa at 6.

I thought there was talk a while back of CBS 2 moving to solo anchored broadcasts outside of the morning to save money?

If not, Dick Brennan is a solid choice. He’s very personable.

What is in question is the 5pm time slot. According to what was announced a while ago, CBS wants a solo anchor at 6pm and 11pm.

I think the Jessica-Kristine duo is interesting, a female duo (only FOX5 has it).

A few quick notes...

CBS 2 is now using a bolder/wider font in the lower-third tab. I think it looks much better.

Also, as the picture shows, Elijah Westbrook has been doing traffic lately. Guy Staniar, who was the regular traffic reporter but never appeared on-screen, has been out for at least the last four or five weeks. In the beginning, the usual off-camera fill-in, Anique Evans, was there. Then they had reporter Natale Duddridge do it a few times on camera, even at least one morning when she was also anchoring. (Natalie was the regular traffic anchor back when Alex Denis left, but then the station eventually dropped traffic for a bit.) Now it's been Elijah the last few weeks. I've heard them mention at least once or twice that he's "in for Guy" but it's been a while. Hope everything is OK. But I definitely prefer having the traffic anchor on camera.

Also, now that Paramount/CBS are apparently about to be in a dispute with YouTube TV, they've been doing that ticker thing we've seen on other stations. (Does this show up only for YouTube TV users or does everyone see it?) They had a two-line version this morning but a slimmer one as of noon.

Today neither Dick or Jessica did the 5pm, it was...Chris Wragge! Cindy handled the morning, and Chris also did the noon. So maybe he is in the running after all?

Also, as noted it seems Vanessa and John are brought in just to do the weather at 6pm (tonight was Vanessa) with Lonnie doing 5/11pm.

Chris was great with Kristine at 5 today. It would be fantastic if he could take the slot permanently, with Cindy Hsu replacing him in the morning.

That would be a full circle moment as they were previously co anchors at 5.
