What is "NOSEY"??   I have noticed this sub channel on Wikipedia for WBBH & WDSU.

It's a group of FAST channels streaming talk, court and reality shows. It's available on Pluto TV.

There's a subchannel I noticed recently for WPSG as well.

WZVN/WBBH is an interesting duopoly as its an ABC & NBC station that share talent with newscasts on at competing times. How was this allowed by the FCC?

The time brokerage between the two stations started in 1994, and the terms of the TBA, while not allowable today, are grandfathered by the FCC because it was established before the federal government put new rules for the operation of TBAs/LMAs/etc.

The transfer of WBBH from Waterman to Hearst included assigning the existing WZVN time brokerage agreement to Hearst.

Back when WZVN-TV was WEVU-TV under the ownership of Ellis Communications (WEVU would change its callsign to WZVN a year later.)

Hearst is laying off staffers involved in their "Very Local" FAST channels....

I wasn't much a fan of these channels to begin with.  They never tended to have news on them at the time it was airing on their stations.  Maybe now they'll make them a little more geared to their news operations.

Another legend in Cincinnati is heading for semi-retirement. WLWT's Courtis Fuller is leaving the anchor desk but not the station entirely.

A year or two ago, KOCO launched a midday newscast at 11:00am but it was temporary to make way for a 4:00pm newscast. It looks like they're bringing it back and it looks to be permanent.

With the coverage of Hurricane Helene, WBBH & WZVN are sharing resources, including reporters and meteorologists.  Right now I'm watching the weather coverage and WZVN Chief Met John Patrick is in the WBBH studio helping out... And the live coverage on WBBH is simulcast on WZVN.

This gives us the first look at severe weather coverage under the new Diagrid 2.0 that WBBH debuted not too long ago.

It sounds like Hearst is also toying with the idea of “one manager in charge of several stations” money-saving concept that Scripps embraced.  KCRA (Sacramento) news director Derek Schnell is now a regional news director who’s also responsible for KSBW (Monterey, CA) and KOAT (Albuquerque), and still has to be ND for KCRA.

I always wonder how the two stations navigate being a duopoly with separately branded newscasts on at competing times with what I presume are the same reporters.

Are they both airing the same packages and then the reporters front them on both stations at different time slots?

I haven't worked in that market in a long time, so much could have changed, but from what I recall - NBC was the favorite child, and ABC got the leftovers/looklives, at least in the evenings. And it makes sense, considering NBC has a much more massive news output. But creative lead choices can always lead to making things work.

I don't recall how they handled mornings where there's the most overlap. (Although there was a time in the 2008-2010 recession that hit SW Florida worse than most parts of the country when they went down to one AM newscast simulcast on both stations)

When I worked in a different market where there were dueling morning newscasts coming out of the same building, it required coordination among producers to make sure they weren't stepping on each other's toes. For a big enough story, you'd occasionally have two reporters on the same story so both could lead with it, and in very rare circumstances - a mini internal generic live shot where both producers agreed to a start time for a live shot and the reporter would get counted down - and they'd start talking whether both stations anchors had stopped talking or not. :)

I was watching the continuous coverage online on both station's YouTube channels. For the most part, it was 90% WBBH graphics and 10% WZVN.  On WZVN's channel, they were showing everyone in WBBH's studio with the WZVN bug.

Editorials still exist. KOCO still does them and their latest example is inducting five folks into their KOCO 5 Hall of Fame.

WGAL also has a Hall of Fame as well!!

More stations have picked up these new opens.....

Looks like KOAT is still using the old open.  What other stations haven't switched to the new one yet?

WGAL uses a mix of both.  Some opens are the new ... some are the old.

Also, no other Hearst station I know did such a long close like that.  More stations should do that.  What would've been better was the KABC-TV Eyewitness Theme as that closing music :)

I went on to a few other stations' websites, and yes, there are other stations still using the old opens – WESH, KSBW, KCRA, WLKY, KETV, WPTZ, WCVB, KOCO.  WTAE also looks to be using a mix of both.  WYFF and WISN are using the new open.

That being said, I was expecting an entirely new graphics package for the Hearst group because with the previous two graphics packages (camera and rings), there was only like one update and then they get replaced with new graphics along with new music.

The camera graphics were introduced in 1995 w/ Gari's Image News as the theme music.  Package was updated in 1998 along with newer cuts of Image News, but some stations instead used the B Package (now Revolution).  KITV and WMUR used a customized version of these graphics in 2002.  In late 2003/early 2004, most stations dropped Image News or the B Package in favor of the Hearst-Argyle TV News Music Package by NewsMusic Central.

Around the fall of 2004, the rings graphics debuted.  I believe KOCO was the only station that didn't switch to the NewsMusic Central music package until they dropped the camera graphics package in favor of this one.  The package was updated in 2007, and, for many stations, a floating 3D rendition of their logos was used in the background.

Diagrid debuted during the summer of 2012 along with Strive by InTheGroove music.  Package was updated in early 2018 to be more 16:9 friendly, with newer cuts of the Strive music package.  A new open for newscasts debuted earlier this year on some stations.

An updated Hearst graphics package already debuted this year. So far, it’s only in use at WBBH, but I expect a full rollout next year.
