Amra 171
The Evening News Plus should be carried by the network as well. Both half hours compliment each other and feels more complete than the 30 minute broadcast imho. Has more substance and more day of news. Could be an area that CBS could have a competitor to PBS NewsHour and maybe force NBC and ABC to follow along with the change. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/46/#findComment-304054 Share on other sites

Critics are also chiming in, like us Variety magazine likened the show to PBS NewsHour https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/cbs-evening-news-format-change-john-dickerson-maurice-dubois-1236288061/ Probably mentioned already but it looks like CBSEN has implemented it. A singular cover story tease is a nice touch, such as the Zelenzky Trump cold open. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/46/#findComment-304075 Share on other sites

First off in the Midwest, Evening News is already sandwiched in the 30 minutes between local newscasts (I know it's a different story on the coasts). Second, the network would have to take that time away from affiliates who almost guaranteed have something that likely either gets higher ratings (i.e. WCCO and WDJT showing Wheel Of Fortune), or they have a local newscast in that slot where the station gets to keep all the ad revenue for themselves (i.e. KELO, KBJR, KXMB) and not have to share with the network. Same argument for "forcing" the other networks to follow along with something that this panel likes, but still can't perform in the ratings. You first need to be able to offer them something that consistently proves to be better than what they currently have. If it were an optional add-on, perhaps you get a few affiliates to dump Inside Edition or ET. But if I had Wheel, and you wanted me to replace that with an add-on to a distant 3rd place newscast, I would tell you to pound sand. 2 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/46/#findComment-304076 Share on other sites

There would be massive resistance from the affiliates unless EN+ is optional like Mornings+ is. 1 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14533-cbs-evening-news/page/46/#findComment-304077 Share on other sites

Amra 171
CBS Evening News sees more ratings growth in total viewers; slightly down on A25-54. Down -3% YoY. Quote By Mark Mwachiro March 11, 2025 The first week of March yielded mixed results for the three evening newscasts. The CBS Evening News was the only newscast to see week-to-week growth in total viewers, while NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt enjoyed positive movement in the Adults 25-54 demo. As for World News Tonight with David Muir, the flagship ABC News newscast maintained its No. 1 position in both measured categories, but missed out on any week-to-week growth. It will be interesting to see whether the advent of daylight savings time impacts any of the three broadcasts— particularly CBS Evening News, which has seen some traction recently. Note: The weekly averages of ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News are based on four days (Monday, Wednesday – Friday), while CBS News’ averages are based on three days (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). All three programs were retitled on Tuesday (03/04/2025) and CBS News’ Friday (03/07/24) broadcast was retitled to CBS Evening Nws. These broadcasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC World News Tonight averaged 7.891 million total viewers and 1.064 A25-54 viewers for a flat result in the former category and a dip of -1% in the latter compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of March 4), WNT was up +1% in total viewers, but fell -3% in the demo. NBC Nightly News finished second in total viewers and the A25-54 crowd, averaging 6.393 million viewers and 952,000 viewers, respectively. Week-to-week, Nightly News was flat in total viewers and up +1% in the demo. Year-to-year, the newscast also remained flat in the former category and ticked upwards by +4% in the latter. CBS Evening News saw 4.378 million total viewers and 623,000 viewers in the demo for a week-to-week gain of +2% in the former category and a -3% dip in the latter. Compared to 2024, the newscast’s numbers declined by -3% in both total viewers and the demo. ATLNewsExpert 453
Maurice DuBois is anchoring solo tonight, and weather was done by Rob Marciano on the actual set, not the virtual set. Also, had no idea where to post this, but since we already know the set is fake, why even try to hide it? Have the entire background fill the screen instead of having it on a fake screen, which in turn looks off. (Mind my bad editing skills but you get the idea.
