newsbot 269
KMGH is in trouble ratings wise. Not sure what can help them this time around. Is Scripps capable of pulling a struggling station of the ditch?
rkolsen 1679
Unsurprisingly WSCV topped ratings in Miami. It was #1 regardless of language in A18-49, A25-54 for their 5-6:30PM and 11PM newscasts. It was #1 regardless of language in A18-34, A18-49, A25-54 for primetime (7-11PM). It was #1 regardless of language for the 11PM weekend newscasts for A18-49 and A25-54. AND... TheRolyPoly 1847
What about English-language stations? This is Miami where the Herald nor the Sentinel don't give a damn about reporting ratings which sucks for TV news junkies like me because then I can't know. channel2 886
Tegna can't seem to do no wrong in Denver...whatever they are doing wrong elsewhere, they are doing right there... By all indications, KUSA is their crown jewel.

C Block 1494
By all indications, KUSA is their crown jewel. There's some interesting analysis in this piece from the Post: http://theknow.denverpost.com/2017/03/07/february-2017-sweeps-denver-9news-fox31/138403/ It's similar to what was pointed out in November, which is that while KUSA is still #1 in the demo for every newscast, ratings are still way down in pretty much every timeslot. Next is down 31% compared to the traditional 6pm a year ago, and the 5pm is down 29%. W/r/t Next, KUSA's GM says they're in it for the long haul: As far as the nontraditional “Next,” Carter said, “we didn’t launch it without thinking we were going to disrupt the audience. We needed to do something different. We look at it in terms of where we’re going in the future.” Carter said focus group research reported two-thirds of the “Next” audience, almost 75 percent, is newcomers. “To me that’s a better measure of that show. These are people coming back to TV news because we drove them away, in essence.” The viewers are not necessarily younger, but “a wide range of demos.” The show will continue to evolve, he said. “It’s good to be innovating from a leadership position,” noting legacy stations are often reluctant to change. How is it that KDKA can be #1 when it comes to Households but #3 when it comes to people between 25-54?

How is it that KDKA can be #1 when it comes to Households but #3 when it comes to people between 25-54? Pittsburgh numbers are never historically consistent. The market is uber competitive, and the numbers always show that. They fight it out in that town....Bigtime!

Breaking News 805
As much as I love to watch CBS primetime shows (including The Price is Right and Y&R) I still hate Moonves and Chen. Why? Chen who was once on CBS' Early Show, now married to the boss. She does have job security until maybe a divorce happens. What your gripe with both of them? Les did turn CBS around in the mid to late 90s, and Julie aka know as Chenbot on Big Brother.
