What about English-language stations?

By all indications, KUSA is their crown jewel.

There's some interesting analysis in this piece from the Post:

http://theknow.denverpost.com/2017/03/07/february-2017-sweeps-denver-9news-fox31/138403/

It's similar to what was pointed out in November, which is that while KUSA is still #1 in the demo for every newscast, ratings are still way down in pretty much every timeslot. Next is down 31% compared to the traditional 6pm a year ago, and the 5pm is down 29%.

W/r/t Next, KUSA's GM says they're in it for the long haul:

As far as the nontraditional “Next,” Carter said, “we didn’t launch it without thinking we were going to disrupt the audience. We needed to do something different. We look at it in terms of where we’re going in the future.” Carter said focus group research reported two-thirds of the “Next” audience, almost 75 percent, is newcomers. “To me that’s a better measure of that show. These are people coming back to TV news because we drove them away, in essence.” The viewers are not necessarily younger, but “a wide range of demos.” The show will continue to evolve, he said. “It’s good to be innovating from a leadership position,” noting legacy stations are often reluctant to change.

Pittsburgh's hasn't changed all that much but the 11pm numbers are really odd. How is it that KDKA can be #1 when it comes to Households but #3 when it comes to people between 25-54?

Pittsburgh numbers are never historically consistent. The market is uber competitive, and the numbers always show that.

They fight it out in that town....Bigtime!

That means most of KDKA's viewers are geezers. Typical for a CBS station.

As much as I love to watch CBS primetime shows (including The Price is Right and Y&R) I still hate Moonves and Chen.

Why? Chen who was once on CBS' Early Show, now married to the boss. She does have job security until maybe a divorce happens. What your gripe with both of them? Les did turn CBS around in the mid to late 90s, and Julie aka know as Chenbot on Big Brother.

That's what happens when TEGNA messes with a New Orleans institution like the Eyewitness Morning News.

http://www.nola.com/tv/index.ssf/2017/03/wvue_edges_out_wwl_in_10_pm_ne.html

This article puts things in perspective; WWL goes from first to THIRD from 7-9 am in a matter of only a couple of months after adding "CBS This Morning! People are already FURIOUS, I'm sure!!

Detailed ratings numbers from the Times-Picayune.

  • WVUE edge out WWL at 10pm by a .2 ratings point (6.8 to 6.6).
  • WWL wins 4:30-7am. But after 7am, The Today Show on WDSU wins 7-9am period, followed by WVUE's Morning Edition. The Eyewitness Morning News on WUPL is 4th behind CBS This Morning on WWL which is 3rd.

Looks like Tegnaitis has finally creeped in at WWL.
