Typical corporate jargon speak. They did eliminate the sports department. If you let go of people whose job it was to do a very specific task, you eliminated the department and shifted the workload elsewhere. Also, specifically covering sports with a reporter in the morning? When nothing sportswise happens? Those reporters aren't going to have the same connections and relationships that the sports department will. 1 1
tyrannical bastard 4044 Posted Friday at 07:06 PM Posted Friday at 07:06 PM Aside from the Astros, Houston is not a market that Fox has a vested interest in sports-wise. The Texans are an AFC team that's had some better years but that's CBS's problem in their eyes. Wonder if the same will happen in Orlando? Austin seems to hold on despite it not having any teams of their own, but feeds on the surrounding markets like DFW, Houston and San Antonio. 1 1

If anything, WOFL/WOGX's Sports segments could be taped and done by WTVT or at least their podcast "No Off Days" could be shown weekly. WTVT also co-produces Florida Tonight with WOFL. 1

Interesting to see what their "long-term" plan is with this.... Having O&Os in NFC markets for sure. For example, Fox 32 has a 5-person sports team, Fox 9 has 4-person and Fox 6 and Fox 2 each have a 3-person team. These 4 stations also have their own weekly NFL/NFC North show (1st and North) along with other sports-related programming. That said, it appears that it's ultimately up to each individual Fox O&O to determine its sports coverage (how much/or little) and not necessarily the Fox corporate overlords. I’m not saying it makes sense for the reason you stated, but they have a 6-hour morning show. Gotta fill it with … something 1

TVLurker 244 Posted Sunday at 03:44 PM Posted Sunday at 03:44 PM Is this what is considered a fireable offense nowadays. No explicit pictures, no swear words, just a post critiquing Stephen Miller? ABC was the first to settle with Trump and now they're the first to fire employees for anti-Trump sentiments. I wouldn't be shocked if others followed suit. 1
Action Newsroom 1304 Posted Sunday at 05:53 PM Posted Sunday at 05:53 PM So he was suspended... for being right? If calling a Trump official a hater (the most lenient yet still accurate term to call them) is grounds for suspension, then that is embarrassing and disappointing. Well... ABC showed their hand. And you know Trump is going to force it any way he can/will. 1 2 1

Don’t be that surprised. WTTG in DC cut theirs years ago, even as the Nationals won the World Series and the Caps won the Stanley Cup. Now, they have a sports reporter who does a handful of sports feature stories a week and then beef up coverage when Washington plays on Fox, esp in the playoffs. But surprisingly, WRC followed through and did the same thing in cutting a regular sports segment. JP Findlay (formerly of NBC Sports Washington) does segments for them as warranted. He does more travel w/ the team, but the days of George Michael and the 5-minute sports block are long gone. 1

The preference is to have a single dedicated "sports reporter" who turns stories in the field about whatever the biggest sports story of the day is. The days of four male sports anchors in crisp suits above the waist taking turns reading highlights from the anchor desk and a bunch of sports producers are over. Edited 19 hours ago by C Block 1 1

Also, I'm guessing stations finally realized that a lot of viewers likely tune out after the weather forecast.
