Re: WLNE

so what happened? Not about bates but the station. Did they enter into an agreement or sale? Havent seen any article or announcement. Also, how many were let go? They took down their news team page.

its about time. That operation needed to shut down. The newscast and most talent was beyond horrible, and looked like market 150.

There is nothing other than Kelly Bates announcement on any local media websites, including Sinclair's Providence station.  Sadly none of the rotating group of owners invested in WLNE (or when it was WTEV) other than relocating studios and operations to Providence.  The few attempts (Dave Layman, John Ghiorse) just didn't move the needle.  WJAR has a tradition there, and pre Sinclair would win their timeslot when they had a technical glitch and broadcast dead air (really).  I would expect they would simulcast WJAR newscasts and close the Providence studios completely assuming this is true in some fashion.

From the Boston Globe:

Providence’s NBC10 will take over ABC6, reshaping TV market in Southeastern New England
In a significant upheaval for the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts news market, WJAR-TV, the top-rated NBC affiliate, is taking over WLNE-TV, the market’s ABC station, the station’s parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, confirmed to the Globe.

Employees at WLNE — known as ABC6 — were told about the sale on Thursday and some staff were laid off, meteorologist Kelly Bates said in a video posted on Facebook.

It looks like KWCH is replacing their 9am morning news with a new lifestyle (I guess?) program called Kansas NOW starting on Monday.

It will also mark Annette Lawless' return to Kansas television.

An update...

First half will be mainly news and weather, second half will be more lifestyle and fluff pieces. Most importantly, it will be simulcast on both KWCH and WIBW Topeka.

Former KTVU anchor Frank Somerville arrested yet again.

This time though, claims of self-defense over an argument with her daughter over her weed habits.

Don’t wanna get racial but I hope it wasn’t his black daughter. I say that because he’s been very vocal about race issues and has support from the Bay Areas black community if they find out he hit his black daughter boy…

Cross-referencing the name in his Facebook post and photos of named person, it is very likely. I’m not a Frank cheerleader/excuser but I do believe that there is more to the story. Hopefully all get the help they need.

Since this isn’t been mentioned FOX23 meteorologist Makayla Smith left KOKI-TV after 3 1/2 years on Sunday September 14th. She and her husband are moving to OKC where his family is and she will still be doing weather just not on tv. I think she maybe joining HailTrace which is in the OKC Metro area.

This caught me out of the loop, but WESH 2 Sunrise meteorologist Kellianne Klass is signing off this Friday after a five-year run at the station.

Her recently married husband of a year is in the Navy and therefore, will be leaving to support him on his new duty station assignment.

WJXT Jacksonville is the #1-rated Independent television station in the country. They started it and now its a masterclass as to how its done. (via WJXT on LinkedIn)

It does mention other stations that air news, such as WPLG, WANF, WHDH, KTVK, KUSI, KCAL, and KSTC, among others. Yes, they even included stations like WTVZ, WMYV, WUAB, WRDC, and others because even they know that MyNetworkTV is NOT a network.

A certain blog is reporting that Reggie Aqui is out at KGO after almost 10 years. His last day on ABC7 Mornings will be Tuesday Sept 20

this is the 3rd anchor to exit the station within these last few months. First Dion Lim and Julian Glover.

Per their IG (@cbsmornings), CBS Mornings will move into their new studio on Monday 9/29. I believe it is safe to assume that it will be some form of the CBSEN studio.

Good for them, but it speaks volumes that they are touting themselves as #1 with a 1.5 HH rating. That kind of number back in the day would have them as bottom dweller material. Streaming and social media has definitely changed the landscape. Also, the numbers are misleading since these markets vary in size and households.

I know it has no bearing on the claim WJXT is making here, but including WANF and WPLG as independents for a comparison that runs from January-August 2025 is a choice. Not one I'd make, personally, considering they both went independent in the month of August.

Sorry for the probable paywall on the link... But turns out KVLY/Fargo really wanted anchor Justin Betti out... After not picking up the 5th year option on his contract, set to expire later this year, they bumped up his departure from the station after station management found out he found a new gig... No on-air good-bye or anything, just "your services are no longer needed". This can't be typical of Gray?

And since the article is from the Fargo Forum, who owns KVLY's cross-town rival, they also note that this is the latest in a list of recent departures and shifts for the station as well.
