KTLA + exist online.   Would the station consider creating a subchannel for ktla +?  If so, a couple of months ago,  when TBD channel left 5.4 to go to 11.3, that would have been good time to create ktla + as a subchannel.

The whole point of streaming/digital outlets is to reach people who are not watching traditional, OTA TV.

The subchannel schedule on TV could be different than that online.  

 

In the future, the network will probably have more sporting events that it will air on the main ktla.  If there's a news event that needs to be covered during those events,  the subchannel would be a great way to do that.  At other times, the subchannel could air the locally produced programs like California Cooking, Frank Buckley interviews, LA Unscripted,  & etc.  They can produce more local programs or import local programs from other nextstar stations.  The station doesn't have to be all news like the online version.

An unfortunate circumstance happened earlier today where KTLA's Twitter/X account accidentally put out the N-word due to a "technical error" which they apologized for. They were blocking ppl for a time after it was posted just for mentioning that it was a "technical error"

I completely believe this because what used to be a good tool for managing accounts in TweetDeck is probably now a bodged together online-only mess because the guy who took over the site destroyed the downloadable app that let you do this all offline THEN send the muted words onto their lists. I don't know the TweetDeck experience right now, but adding every variation of the r-slur because that place refuses to moderate anything just as an individual user now was a nightmare and a half.

Oof. I guess the lesson here is to start the process with "softer" offensive words.

 

It's probably easier to explain how you accidentally posted the word "poop" rather than what they posted.

I'm really disgusted with how biased KTLA has become. They have always been biased towards the police, they employ many retired officers, but the last week or so of coverage has been like watching pro police propaganda. The way anchors and reporters keep injecting pro-police commentary while ignoring and defending anything negative that the police have been doing during these protests is just astounding. I don't expect opinions when I watch KTLA, I know they aren't going to express left wing views I agree with, but I feel like i'm watching FOX News with the MAGA opinions the anchors keep expressing.

I don’t know what I was expecting moving to the market 4 years ago, maybe something more akin to WGN in the morning or KTLA morning clips I’ve seen in the past, but I was fairly surprised at the shiny plastic sheen, AM to PM, of KTLA. I know it’s Los Angeles, but sometimes everything in-studio comes across artificial enough to the point of uncanny valley discomfort. 
 

Also, I’ve found the political leanings of both KTLA and KTTV are both fairly obvious.

A big problem with the presentation at KTLA and KTTV, from my perspective, is that they overwork their people. Micah Ohlman and Cher Calvin are on air from 5-7:30, then from 10-11:30. Meanwhile at KABC, Marc Brown is on air for a total of an hour and a half, maybe two hours a day.

 

As for the political ... take a look at the social media presence of some of KTLA and KTTV's on-air talent. It's amazing they're able to repress their feelings on air as much as they do! 

 

I do think some of the political leanings come from on high at Nexstar and Fox, although it is somewhat tempered given the left-leaning population.

 

KCAL/KCBS seems a little right leaning as well, but I think that's largely from having an appropriately adversarial relationship with the powers that be, which are, obviously, left leaning almost everywhere in LA County.

It was kind of telling how KTLA opened its 10:00pm newscast tonight with the story that ABC had pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live while barely acknowledging their beloved owner Nexstar's major role. As Cher explained a misleading timeline of events she made no mention that Nexstar put out a press release attacking Jimmy Kimmel and saying they would refuse to air the show, saying only that "ABC made the decision after the FCC chairmen suggested they may take action against the network". While later on the report did mention that "Nexstar, KTLA's parent company, also announced that it would be pulling Kimmel from its ABC affiliates" this was the only mention of Nexstar's involvement.  Why was KTLA so afraid to highlight the actions of their parent company? I mean this is the same network that relentlessly demonized the anti ICE protesters non stop back in June. Are they just now starting to realize that being part of Nexstar's MAGA empire is not going to pay off in Southern California?

Because the corporate brass at Nexstar are probably watching the editorial actions of KTLA more closely than that of a random affiliate in a smaller or medium market.

It's just interesting how Nexstar is so bold in their press release craving media attention about bringing down Jimmy Kimmel, but when it comes to a major left wing market the Nexstar station is claiming it's all on ABC. 

 

The people protesting outside Disney should also protest outside KTLA. Nexstar deserves just as much negative backlash as ABC and Disney do for this decision, and it's about time Nexstar stations start to suffer in left wing markets. LA's Very Own is owned by the MAGA far right

If you look at WPIX's report last night at 10pm, their introduction to the story was very transparent:

"ABC decided to pull the plug on the show after Nexstar, which is PIX11's parent company, announced that its ABC affiliates would pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely over its Charlie Kirk comments"
