Chauncey Glover, who, again, IMO, is equally unwatchable, starting off the newscast “hello friends.”  Creeper.

Sounds like he picked that up from Dave Ward during his time at KTRK. 'Creeper' seems a bit strong.

It seems like the duopoly is only interested in hiring younger people that look attractive because it fits the “LA vibe”. Vaughn is just your typical news anchor but they didn’t have the decency to tell him why he was fired. Then, they hired Chauncy Glover to replace Vaughn as primetime anchor as well as meteorologist Dani Ruberti to possibly push Evelyn Taft aside even though Taft wanted her hours cut back. Last year’s rebrand to KCAL News is a sign that lots of changes are happening and nothing can be done to stop it.

Oh, I'm sure they did tell him the reason truly (likely that he refused to help any of the younger talent out of jealousy and anger that his low-effort anchoring was being replaced with actual personality), but he dismissed it out of hand in multiple evals and then when they pull the trigger he just dismissed it and then caught the Larry Conners Express to refuse to take any blame for his own demise. Putting all of this in writing in a legal filing just amplified it.

I would argue the brand has been successful for 34 years which is why they decided not to use CBS News Los Angeles on channel 9 where a bulk of the newscasts are aired. Even when the two stations became a duopoly, it was KCAL’s management that ran the combined operation.

From the promo loop airing on 9.6 (that originally was airing/promoting a launch on 9.2 before moving to 9.6), it looks like a general entertainment lineup with extra runs of syndie fare like Dr. Phil, Judge Judy, Flip Side, Hot Bench, Family Feud and programming from MeTV Toons

Will they consider putting more local news on this station?

Let's see...4-11am, noon-1pm, 4-5pm, 8-10:45pm.  11 hours, 45 minutes, and that's not to mention three and a half hours of news produced for KCBS (although one of those hours is simulcast on 9).  That's more than 15 hours produced each weekday by the CBS Los Angeles operation, trailing only KTLA by less than a few hours in terms of local newscasts.

How much more news can 2/9 fit in, unless they go overnight (lol)?

KCAL+ officially launched today, on channel 9.6; the channel's listings (via TitanTV) aren't yet listed on the CBS Los Angeles website. KCAL also has yet to straighten-out the listings of their subchannels, with the programs on KCAL+ listed on 9.2 instead of on 9.6, with the station's other subchannels (The Nest, Comet, HSN, QVC) also displayed incorrectly.

What I can tell you is that they have a three-hour game show block from 2-5pm: Funny You Should Ask, the new Flip Side, and Family Feud, with a hour of Hot Bench following from 5-6pm.

Edit: I came across program listings for KCAL+ via TVGuide.com (search for 9.6), and as PhillyWatch mentioned before, it's all extra runs of current syndicated programming from 2 and 9, and from 7pm to 4am, MeTV Toons occupies the rest of the broadcast day.  Of course, MeTV Toons is already broadcast in the region over KSFV 27.1 and KAZA 54.3 full-time.

They could add more newscasts on the main kcal 9.1.  For example, weekdays from 1-4pm.  Move the court shows to kcal 9 plus - 9.6 or kcbs.  Then, everyday from at 7-8pm.  They're have so many family feud episodes airing everyday.  Currently 7-8pm daily, plus 11pm till midnight weekdays.

On weekends, they can add early afternoon newscasts from 3-5pm.

Lets not over do it with news out put. KTLA is already doing that unfortunately. Alternative programming options are needed on broadcast.

Is there a reason for the cancelation of the 4am news?

If they really wanted to compete with news,  I was just suggesting they add more newscasts and move other programs to 9.6.

I do believe there's too much news on tv in Los Angeles, but many of the other programs that are shown are not that interesting to watch.

I just saw a promo indicating Ross Palombo is on weeknights, what time slot is he on? Since Juan does 9pm and Chauncy does 5pm/8pm/10pm/11pm.

@TheNewsTV Palombo’s investigative reports are shown during the week so that is why the promo says that.

Yeah they now have repeats of Dr Phil airing at 4:00am with KCAL News starting at 5:00am.

I understand them getting rid of the 4:00am hour. KTLA & ABC are so established and have a huge advantage in the mornings, KCAL is basically building its morning news audience from nothing and likely relying on those who watch KCAL's primetime news to tune in, but how many people watching KCAL News in primetime are waking up at 4:00am?

They're also competing with Knbc & Kttv.  Did kcbs have a 4am newscast before kcal start airing news at 4am or did their newscast start at 4:30am?  Kcal started out with 4am newscast and now they recently canceled the 4am due to budget issues.  Would this mean that they may reduce the news in the mornings even more in the future because of budget issues or due to ratings being low for the station to justify them airing news that early?  I think they shouldn't have canceled the 4am newscast and find some other way to deal with the budget issues.  I also believe that the ratings are not enough since there are so many stations airing news at the same time.

When it was KCBS, CBS 2 News This Morning started at 4:30 a.m. Once KCAL News Mornings launched, it went to 4:00 a.m.
