A lot of people are laughing at the ACC

Nah, for the most part this is returning quite a few stations to the Saturday status quo they had for at least a couple decades where they'd carry ESPN+ (the old regional sports version) or Raycom coverage. This should have been done back to when UPN was carrying XFLI games but the weekend syndie hour show market hadn't yet hard-crashed.

They might be the thinner matches, but it's still college football on Saturdays and basketball on weeknights. It's better than Nielsen scratch-athons the 55th episode of dead sitcoms or Byron Allen filler...

...and this package will affect his HBCU coverage for the next season. Expect that to bump exclusively to MyNet affiliates and subchannels if it was on a CW station last year. Of course this is contingent on the CW renewing SInclair, which is still quite in limbo.

I'm amazed that Raycom Sports (now part of Gray) will be producing the games.

Nexstar and Gray, while two big broadcast companies, are about as far apart as can be when it comes to things like cable, digital and OTT...

Raycom was producing the ACC games that aired on Bally, they just used Bally’s onscreen graphics for presentation purposes

Interesting that 2 ACC homes markets (Pittsburgh and atlanta) don’t currently have a CW affiliate….Nexstar better start making some calls

Pittsburgh has neither Gray nor Nexstar as owners...while Atlanta has WPCH that could align with the CW.

The overlap that Wheeling-Steubenville had in the old analog days could have come in handy here...

Is there any word that CW will debut a new graphics package and music to fully distance themselves from the days of airing young adult and DC Comics dramas? I'm sure the logo and name of the network itself will remain the same.

They've also branded a few of their improted shows as CW Originals. But what about the people who may have seen it before either from visits up north or from clips online. This is kinda like when NBC at the height of Must See TV marketed reruns with the tagline 'If you haven't seen it, its new to you'.

WXSP aired ACC football in the finals years before they went to Fox Sports/Bally Sports in 2019. Also aired The Big10 Football/Men's Basketball from 2004/07 before Big10 Network. Before that WXMI Fox17 aired syndication Big10 Football/Men's Basketball for 9 years 95-04.

And...what does this have to do with the national scene?

Will there even be a CW in 2025?  If Sinclair pulls their stations, it might be bad for them…

Nexstar is in many of those markets and can just put the affiliation on their own stations.

Plus, even though its' the second tier series, it still draws 750k-1 Million viewers. Getting this package may be what's needed to get affiliation groups on the fence on renewing to renews, since even if they only get 500k-750k, it's still better than what The CW typically draws, and better than the typical Weekend filler on CW/MyTV affilates.

And local ACC markets like Atlanta and Pittsburgh can benefit from this package, as well.

And Pitt is playing in the first game on The CW, so hopefully the new affiliate is announced soon.

Typically, they only get around a million viewers when they're on network TV (like they are this weekend and next), so ideally, this should be beneficial for NASCAR, the network and the affiliates.

Speaking of scheduling changes, they're swapping FBoy Island and the comedy night so that FBoy Island isn't competing with The Golden Bachelor.

So instead, they're competing with Monday Night Football and Dancing with the Stars. Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire...

Good for the comedies even if they are imports

I didn't realize Miss USA was off network television for so long, I assumed it aired on Fox after they picked up Miss Universe from NBC.  Apparently not.

Expand

Backstory: After NBC terminated its contract to air Miss USA and Miss Universe because of Trump’s infamous comments about Mexicans in his speech announcing his candidacy for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, Reelz carried the 2015 telecast. It was included as part of Fox’s deal to broadcast Miss Universe starting in 2016, but moved back to a cable-exclusive telecast in 2020, when A+E Networks picked up the rights to carry Miss USA on FYI.

Miss Teen USA (which will be livestreamed on The CW’s app and website on September 29, the same night as Miss USA) has been off linear TV much longer, having been on streaming exclusively since 2008 and last seen on TV for its 2007 edition on NBC. (NBC was apparently unable to broadcast it in 2008 because of a scheduling conflict with the Summer Olympics.) Given that most of the contestants in that pageant are underage (the age cutoff to be eligible to compete is 19), there are understandable reasons why the Miss Universe Organization has forgone a traditional Miss Teen USA telecast for 15 years.
