T.L. Hughes 814
Nexstar CEO Perry Sook now says the company expects The CW to break even by the end of 2025. That would require a lot of legwork, especially considering the cancellation of legacy series in favor of cheaper content could risk them ending up in the same situation as News Corporation did when it acquired The Family Channel and rebooted it as Fox Family (now Disney-owned Freeform): chasing away some of its existing viewer base as a result of removing virtually all of the programs it inherited from the previous ownership and, barring that it can generate hits from newer scripted (which it’s now open to develop as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over) and unscripted content, winding up struggling to replace its core audience. SoCalLocal 7
Remember when The WB and UPN Merged and they chose Hi performing stations like Nexstar's predecessor Tribune and CBS' Stations groups? None of the FOX Owned UPN stations in larger markets from the Chris Craft/United Television stations after the company bought it didn't get the CW and they started their network. It flopped 3 years later to become a syndication service and become a shell of their stations and twin-stick with their FOX O&Os. I am curious how the CW will last. If It was Tribune, they would pull the plug on the CW. One of the executives at the Tribune was threatening not to renew their contract with the CW because of their performance. That alone is probably going to ensure it's survival, unless it becomes such an albatross that even Nexstar shuts it down.

Nexstar could very well make The CW a major player amongst the other networks as early as tomorrow, but then all of the NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox stations Nexstar owns would be complaining that The CW is syphoning viewers away from them. For that to happen, the other networks would have to really let themselves go. It's a question if and or when ABC. NBC, CBS and Fox sell their namesake networks to other owners. The CW as it is is purely a secondary network with station owners primarily operating it as an alternative or secondary station to their primary channel. They would only "gain" viewers (or not lose them as quickly as the others) if the others have major losses.

Megatron81 214
All the major sports webpages have a page of WWE even ESPN under the sports news banner, CBS sports also has a page for WWE, I don't know if they have one for AEW thou. I did some exploring on this, and sure enough Fox treated Smackdown as a sports property (they even put them in the Fox Sports intro!). That changed this summer when Fox recategorized them as an entertainment show. As far as Raw and NXT goes, NBCU has always classified them as entertainment programming. We'll have to wait and see if The CW decides to air NXT under their CW Sports banner. As for AEW, it appears that they were also reclassified from sports to entertainment when Discovery took over WarnerMedia.

That's probably when the last vestiges of Arrow-verse era graphics will fade away, and I was expecting them to be keeping them for the long haul given they're now implementing it to their imported shows. And I guess its also proof that Nexstar won't be changing CW's name after all.

tyrannical bastard 3673
More Nexstar CW pickups beginning January 1st.... WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids (as a subchannel) displacing Sinclair's subchannel on WMMT. KELO-TV in Sioux Falls (as a subchannel) displacing Gray's subchannel on KSFY. WMBB-TV in Panama City (as a subchannel) displacing Gray's subchannel on WJHG. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/three-more-nexstar-stations-becoming-cw-affils-on-jan-1/ Aside from Panama City, these new CW affiliations will likely replace MyNetwork channels, or shift their programming to a later hour.
