I was told by the assistant news director at KJRH back in April that Scripps was working on a new graphics package and looks like Tampa Bay is the first to get it.

Between here and the Discord, we've seen multiple people confirm that this is a new package for the group, so there's been a thread title change.

Better than the current Scripps package! Would be nice if local markets can customize color though... I've always associated WFTS with reds and whites, not blue.

While a bit generic, the graphics are an upgrade from the Powerpoint package they've had. I'd be interested to hear what other cuts the music package has because that one was quite underwhelming and forgettable.

I like it. The "Covering Hillsborough County" graphic reminds me of Hearst stations, so it must be the same font.

That said, the audio in the video clip makes it sound like the music is rather....lethargic?

The openings looks good. More generic white box L3s graphics (yawn) but definitely an upgrade from their current flat blue rectangle L3. It looks like a better version of WPIX's mid 2010s package.

I think the lower third would look better if the  "Right now at 5:00 subject line" were placed above the white box, not within it.

I like the depth on some of these graphics such as here. The curves remind me of the ABC O&O graphics.

Can't wait to see these on WPTV.

The current music is rather... lethargic too. I really miss Inergy at this point. This music won't fit everywhere if thats the required opening cut. Maybe there is something better in the package. These graphics look pretty good though I hope they keep the concept of the transitions featuring the station logo between stories. It was a nice touch. I am glad to see there are no text bubbles or crazy flying boxes or other insanity this time.

No this is not Effra -- it's definitely the font used by the new Cox graphics package that just came out

The design has VividZero/Defiant vibes ?

This looks like something they would do. I mean, some of the elements here look pretty familiar.

The current music pkg isnt even music. Its weak boring..  nothing. A few lame sounds to put you to sleep.

This is at least a music pkg with some style. God.. why have the Scripps stations become so boring and vanilla. They are unwatchable. No energy. WXYZ is the worst offender. Is that on purpose?

I like the look (7 day is gross). Music could use more "umphf" to it I think. But it's definitely an upgrade. Wasn't the current package (Scripps v3) purposely designed to only last a few years? I thought I remember that being a point of discussion here. It was new for the sake of new, but done quickly and cheap, and not meant to last 10 years.

It’s probably to counter the stupid, over the top, full of yourself presentation of WDIV. And besides. It’s the best thing they’ve put out product wise since all the old folks retired. That and they can put out a cleaner product than WDIV, which it is, and try to capitalize on that sinking ship over there. Do I wish they had some of the old O&O style energy? Sure. It’s it the most mistake free in the market? Probably.

This new music package with the goofy string sound just sort of repeats variations of that and it sounds kinda weird after a while. WFTS played about two minutes if it today and it really never even gets off the ground. It might make a great BREAKING NEWS bed but it’s kinda lousy theme music.

My thoughts exactly. Who is the consulting firm that advised Scripps to strip their newscasts of any zest and turn them into generic waiting room/airport kiosk feed newscasts. Old Scripps packages had a lot more color and life.

The gold one was one of the worst things ever devised by mortal man. Those colors belong in a 1970’s car dealership.  The other one was good except for the silly flying box on the left. That got old after a while.

Agreed. I like the second ones more except for the flying box.

The Brown graphics admittedly were not the best but I maintain that they were still more imaginative and lively than what we have now.

EDIT: This is perhaps the best thing **a Scripps station ever had graphically**...

Technically that was RenderON specifically for WPTV. I doubt corporate had much say in that and it was before the days of standardization. But I still agree and it's one of my favorites.

It'll certainly be interesting to see the new Scripps group graphics and music package introduced to the other Scripps group stations (including WEWS, WCPO, WPTV, WRTV, WTVF, KMGH, KTNV, etc.).

I could see this throwing a hint to competing groups like Tegna and Hearst, if any of them are mulling over new graphics and music packages for their stations.
