  1. Yup. Right now the NBCs have the best sets of the O&Os I'd argue Hearst and Graham stations have the best sets of the affiliate groups. What ABC O&O would you all say has the best set? KGO? KABC?

  2. Even thought the Patriots have ended up playing in quite the number of Super Bowls on Fox, KTVU aired more regular season Niner games than Patriot games on WFXT.

  3. Of course a set is not (really going to change ratings), but it's borderline crazy to suggest that replacing a 12-year-old set is an exceptional waste of money. KCNC skipped the wave of KCBS copycats of 2016/17. It's probably time. By the ratings logic, most stations in the country should look the same now as they did in the '90s, '80s, or even the '70s, with how rarely ratings shift. Major market ABC station who's dominated since the '80s...why bother? You'll still be #1. Major market CBS station who's been a dog for 30 years...also why bother?

  4. Sets don't need to match graphics. Some of the stations could use a coat of paint, but matching the sets to something that will likely change and be long gone before the space reaches the end of its useful life feels unwise. The on-set screen logos and graphics were changed accordingly, and that's all you really need, at this point.

  6. It was nice but I kinda in my eye was starting to look dated. Just like WCCO their set holds up well also but at some point ill start to look sore.

  7. And MSNBC hosts are all over it. https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/watch/right-wing-propaganda-infiltrates-local-news-stations-as-2024-election-ramps-up-212854853779 https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/watch/misleading-attacks-on-biden-s-age-appear-in-local-newscasts-owned-by-sinclair-broadcast-group-212869701903 https://x.com/atrupar/status/1800883346337395062 https://x.com/atrupar/status/1800892152437932335 This is a big fucking deal and could potentially place NBC in hot water with Sinclair among their existing affiliates, something that they were trying to avoid: Either MSNBC is damming the torpedoes at the risk of Sinclair mass disaffiliating with NBC, or NBC has concluded that they no longer need the Sinclair stations and can simply move the affiliations to Peacock.

  8. I love the set, supposedly took 4 years to come to fruition - probably most of it was planning and building the extension to the building. I love how they have large curved monitor wall slightly with its own background. The a separate backdrop allows a canvas slightly with an aspect ratio larger than a 16:9 float above much like the 4:3 OTS elements. I also love the ingenuity of the two-two camera set up with a PTZ heads on the top/bottom of a cutout. It’s great that when they’re not in use they can slide back between two walls. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/394023269948456961/1249911659632394240/RPReplay_Final1718072407.mov

  9. Why was under different circumstances? Well, because, Sinclair tried to aquire Tribune Broadcasting but failed.

  10. There are certainly some dog NBC affiliates within Sinclair. Notably WTWC in Tallahassee and more recently, WPMI in Mobile and WGFL WNBW in Gainesville. WTWC doesn't even air TND during local news slots like the other stations that have given up on news. Also, their affiliations are apparently up at the end of the year. We shall see if they renew. It seemed like an eleventh hour thing the last time. But like the ABC affiliates keeping stations like KDNL the way they are, it's probably worth it to keep NBC around for stations like WTOV, WJAR, WCYB and WJAC.

  11. MSNBC has been very vocal on matters that could affect company interests. From the Rona McDaniel hiring to this. Loosy related... The only other company I've seen that allows this much criticism on company matters is Fox, with shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy routinely mocking the Fox News Channel.

  13. For those outside of Central Indiana, this move, like the one from ABC to NBC is big. The Indy 500 is seen as a state holiday. Trust me, the people at Fox59 are very happy right now about this. When WTHR (NBC) got it from RTV6 (ABC), they were very happy and started planning right away. Now, the blackout is still probably in tact and will stay that way from now until the end of days. How are the people at WTHR feeling? Not happy. for a number of years, the big three network stations in Indy had a share in The Month of May. WISH-TV had the One America 500 Mini Marathon and Indy 500 Parade, RTV6 with the race (tape delay), and WTHR with the awards banquet the next night. Shortly after WISH said they were losing CBS, they also lost the rights to the Mini and Parade to WTHR. I should add the Mini Marathon and Parade are outside of IndyCar and the IMS. The awards banquet is also something outside of IndyCar and the IMS. Unless Fox59/CBS4 make a move for those, don’t expect those to change.

  14. On a similar note if you notice the time bugs above the station logo you'll see the Biden packages were placed in the A block. What sucks about Sinclair stations is that so much of their local broadcasts are made up of national news. Unless it's a major story, local stations typically resort to nation packages to fill airtime by the b or c blocks. In my market's Sinclair, like these stations in the report, I have seen national packages appear as early the middle of A block. And the reports are usually never from the Affiliated Network mostly from sinclair. The nationalization of local news is another issue. As a viewer I don't want to see the same stories rehashed that I can already get from Network or cable.

  15. MSNBC going after them would be enough to make Sinclair mass disaffiliate from NBC as retaliation. Which is exactly what a small-minded idiot like David Smith would do. Again, read the Times article above.

  16. Pretty sure Alan was going to retire after 40 years no matter what. As I have said before, he and Cheryl had a good working relationship on-air and 'appeared' to be cordial with each other off the air. Unless someone writes a book, start a podcast, etc..., we will likely never know what issues Mark, Ron, etc.. had with her and vice-versa.

  19. 2013. It was holding up nicely and sets cost a lot and don't contribute to a ratings bump.

  20. Good journalism and responsible use of the public's airwaves are not Sinclair's objectives. Their endgame is more money for them and power for the politicians they agree with. They've done it every presidential election year since at least 2004.

  21. I know many young and aspiring journalists won't touch Sinclair now. I've heard of stories of people taking jobs with other companies in smaller markets instead even after being offered a bigger market job with Sinclair. Most Sinclair markets rank very low in their markets anyway, often in last place.

  23. CCO's set has aged remarkably well for being almost 15 years old. I'd argue that they still have one of the best sets in the market. Renovations were made a couple of years ago for the launch of "The 4", and more updates were made to update the set to scrub the old logos from the glass and weather center. That said, how did CBS allow WCCO to have such a unique set in the first place? Just years of not having a real set from using the window onto the Nicollet Mall Plaza?

  25. KXAS (not surprisingly for an NBC o&o) is the best looking station in the market.

  26. The few times I've seen their newsroom on air, it looks worse IMO than the news set does. Lots of wires that should be hidden, ceiling tiles not completely in place or missing, just sad looking--especially in comparison to the other local newsgatherers.

  27. 6ABC has updated the ticker. It operates like ESPN & CBS's. It's a scroll down, until the information is longer than the ticker box, where it crawls at that point.

  28. Indeed, the average viewer probably wont even notice the let alone care about the theme music lol. We are the small niche crowd that cares and come to this very forum to critique and "bemoan" (I like this word now ). Honestly, im still shocked and kind grieving the loss of the KABC theme, loved that package so much, but it's a personal problem that i'll have to get over haha. But I agree wholeheartedly with Matt and MediaZone4K. Best implementation WPVI with them retaining their theme and keeping the montage open kudos to theme, their viewers actually care about the theme, WABC which has always been visually impaired with their appearance finally looking top notch and arguably the leader with the upgraded look. Now the next order of business. How will the new sets and studios complement the new look. The sets for all the O&Os are now out of date.

  29. I know this was posted via a reply in another thread, but I feel this bit of news deserves its own. IndyCar moves to Fox Sports in 2025 after 16 seasons with NBC. Fox now has Daytona 500 and Indy 500 (yahoo.com) This also means the Indy 500 will be the latest big event to be added to Fox's roster, as they have rights to the World Series, the Belmont Stakes, Super Bowls LIX, LXIII, LXVII, and the Daytona 500 to name a few.

  32. Just when you thought it was over, there’s more! (And I found this information while looking at IFL (Indoor Football League) team TV and radio rights. This was also announced a while back, April 19th to be exact.) The CW and Nexstar Media Group announced that they would not renew the CW affiliations of some Scripps-owned stations. These include (and this is all of them): - KWBA in Tucson, Arizona (soon to be Tucson 58, and I’m actually concerned if Arizona 61 will be Phoenix 61 now. Bonus: they could’ve used that station for Arizona Coyotes games courtesy of Scripps Sports in Tucson instead of KGUN’s second subchannel.) - KRIS-DT2 in Corpus Christi, Texas (soon to be Corpus Christi or South Texas 6.2 or 23, depending on the CW 23 thing they did.) - WMYD in Detroit, Michigan (this one’s challenging because a Detroit 50 already exists, so could it be Michigan 20 or Detroit-Windsor 20? I don’t know, just guessing cause that already exists. Bonus: such a short-lived CW affiliation! Guess we could see The CW coming back to channel 38.) - KATC 3.2 in Lafayette, Louisiana (soon to be Acadiana 3.2 or Lafayette 3.2) - WSFL-TV in Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Florida (also challenging because the station already has non-generic non-CW branding, but if it were to switch, it would be Miami 39 or South Florida 39) - WGNT in Portsmouth-Norfolk, Virginia (same thing here. It could be Norfolk 27 or Hampton Roads 27) - and KSBY-DT2 in San Luis Obispo-Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, California (soon to be Central Coast 5 or 6 depending on the CW 5 scenario) Come September 1st, you’ll see these stations go lights out on the CW. Replacements are to be announced in the coming months.
