Hopefully WCBS keeps some ties to Maurice because as I've said, CBSEN is unstable broadcast. We could be seeing this arrangement blow up in the next three to four years. Falling back on his position as lead anchor at the flagship o&o will be a good cushion. Hate to sound negative, but history is not on this broadcast's side.1 point

Based on a quote from a new interview in Newsday, Maurice DuBois may remain a contributor on WCBS broadcasts when he takes over the Evening News "sometime in January", but will not anchor any of the broadcasts anymore, saying remaining on the 11pm would be "physically impossible" (which is totally understandable). So based on this , I expect Allen Devlin , Dick Brennan or a combo of both to replace him entirely as anchor. Here is a quote from the article1 point

I enjoyed ABC's coverage. David Muir has become one of my favorites. I was especially surprised to go to bed and wake up at 5:30 AM and STILL see him and the entire team still on! Did the other networks go that late with their whole teams? That was almost 10 hours.1 point

There is. MSNBC has its audience, outperforms CNN and at times (not all the time) in the evening rivals Fox channel. Back to topic, MSNBC and CNBC (each with distinctly different target audiences) are integrated into NBC News (management, resources, reporters, etc) that spinning them off would probably be problematic. USA is the same now with NBC Sports. As for the rest, probably no longer as important to the network and company as they were 10 years ago. The problem becomes, if any of the owners of multiple (and ever more generic) cable stations are up for sale, would there even be a buyer today?1 point

Granted I don't like MSNBC but I found myself tuning into them and Fox News (not for neutral information) but to get both sides of election analysis commentary. Where was Fox getting their information from to call the election earlier than other networks? I tuned into CNN's panel discussions particularly with Abby Phillip. While I appreciated their attempt to have diverse opinions unlike the echo chamber on MSNBC, the conversation was messy and argumentative. NBC used to be my go-to for elections and I loved how they went all out with the ice skating rink and Democracy Plaza. But things have been so subdued since 2016. At least the ice skating rink and projecting results off the side of the building are still done. The ABC lead coverage by David Muir was pretty good, CBS not bad as well.1 point

They've been airing tributes all evening at the top of their newscasts.1 point

KPNX (NBC Phoenix) along with I assume other TEGNA stations utilizing for Election Night the ticker we saw WNEP (ABC Scranton/Wilkes Barre) testing out just over a week ago promting as well where viewers can watch local election coverage via + apps. Noticing this even now, not sure about other TEGNA stations, but KPNX still has the ticker running through commercials & even now during syndicated programming they're airing, Live with Kelly & Mark.1 point

Except when not airing any of the Real Housewives franchises, or Andy Cohen's show (which is part of that same universe), it airs the same movies you find on other NBCU outlets including E, USA and SyFy. And that is the problem with so many cable outlets by Paramount, ABC and NBCU - the same shows and movies are broadcast on all of them.1 point

I think Bravo is more popular than people here realize. The Real Housewives franchise, and the rest of their programming, holds a very strong appeal with a demographic advertisers love - and one that I suspect has little if any overlap with that of this board. Bravo plays a big role with Peacock as well. Sci Fi/Syfy has always been a bit of an outlier in the NBC Universal stable. Unlike USA, Bravo or Oxygen (pre-true crime revamp), it's overtly dedicated to a category, not a demographic. It strikes me as a hidden gem that could excel in the right hands but I don't think NBCU cares about it anymore.1 point

Wolf is anchoring with Erin Burnette at 12pm eastern today. I know he mentioned I believe in 2022 election that he would slim down election duties. Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper are the main prime time anchors going forward. They've been the main anchors for all big stories with panels in Washington and New York.1 point

Maybe Comcast should split their cable business from NBCUniversal..... ...sort of like how they were BEFORE they bought NBCUniversal......1 point

I was surprised that WBNX didn't get sold to another godster surprised they were general entertainment channel truth be told and not run as a faith base channel like most godster's are.1 point

Per The Hollywood Reporter: "On NBC, while viewers will see Rockefeller Plaza behind the anchors, the studio is actually placed right in the newsroom, with Tom Llamas’ big board just steps away (like on MSNBC, Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie will be able to see what he is looking at), and the newsroom directly adjacent to the set."1 point

Strange to hear MSNBC is losing money. Statista puts it as the #3 rated cable network behind Fox News and ESPN. How are some of these cable channels like SyFy still on the air making advertising profits with viewership below 1 million, in some cases below 500,000? I agree with shutting everything down that isn't MSNBC, CNBC and USA. I don't think merging MSNBC with CNBC would work...but I would love to see all propaganda cable news channels shut down. This is about money however so.... CNN and MSNBC have such a complex relationship with Trump. They want him out of office because of his ideology, yet his presence is fueling their viewership. If Trump looses, MSNBC will a) focus on Trump's legal battles, b) return to their pre 2015 strategy: non-stop criticism of Republican policy and congressional legislation blockage, c) they could simulcast NBC News Now and leave the opinions to Primetime.1 point

How about the other channels? Instead of selling them off, while not transfer those channels like bravo, e channel, & , etc to peacock like the person mention previously with universal kids above or move the most successful programs to USA, & shut those other networks down? I think by selling off the networks, it will create more issues for Comcast instead of being beneficial because they own channels like cnbc and msnbc, sharing the name with NBC. USA network has sports, so what are they going to do with the issue of the sports contracts? I thought NBC news was profitable, but to hear that msnbc was losing money, it didn't make sense. Why is that? Are the personalities on the channel making too much? For MSNBC, maybe move their prime time programs to CNBC between 7pm - Midnight, while CNBC keeps its' business news during the daytime with regular breaking news updates every half hour, if they plan to shut msnbc down. Basically, instead of owning a bunch of cable networks, they should just concentrate on 2 like USA & CNBC, while moving the rest to peacock or shutting them down.1 point

I don't think that is 1A. The floor and the ceiling headers when the camera pans to the left seem to indicate this is another studio. My guess is that this is 4E. The low ceiling height and the headers would line up with 4E's structure. Back in 2016, they used 4E for Decision 2016 coverage. The glass wall separating the studio and the newsroom was removed and a single cohesive flooring spanning both spaces was put in place. From the quick video above, this appears to be a similar physical setup from eight years ago, but now with AR extensions.1 point

Yes. He was hired as the main anchor to replace Maurice. And yes.. this is what happens when people are hired young and out of town because they check a box. Just sayin’.1 point

Abby Phillip has this odd disinterested expression on her face. She comes alive a little during panel discussions, but otherwise there's something off about her anchoring. I like Muir, he has a great switch between soft news, roving reporter, and hard newsman. These days I find myself going to ABC for breaking news coverage more than NBC. In theory, I think a cable network with partisan hosts from both parties could work. Something like Ben Shapiro and Rachel Maddow having primetime slots on the same channel. It's sad that cable news must resort to partisanship for profit, while companies like News Nation, and sometimes CNN, who play the middle, fail. Yes, both liberals and conservatives deserve a space to broadcast to like-minded individuals. The problems come when facts are twisted to support a certain narrative, and audiences only get their news from bias sources clouding their view of reality. Fox, MSNBC, and CNN all need to go. But this is about money, so the first two on that list will be sticking around.0 points

CNN panel discussions (if you can call them that) hurt them more than help. Phillip is incapable of moderating/leading panel discussions and quite frankly, is out of her depth.0 points

KHQA's news has been coming out of Champaign, Illinois for several years now (WICD"s former facility). I wonder if that's getting shut down and all news will come out of the WICS facility in Springfield for WICS/WICD and Fox Illinois? I believe they did a Fox newscast out of there for that market along with the newscasts for KHQA. But yay, another company switching to the Scrippscast model. Shouldn't they be getting ready for News Central 3.0 and hiring a former Trump operative to sell Project 25 to the masses now that their lord and savior is now the King of America?0 points

Update to KHGI/KFXL. On the daily live today that they do at the end of the noon show on Facebook, they talk about it being the last day for some. They've confirmed there will be no longer someone at the anchor desk during the noon show. Their goal is to put more people in the field to create more content. All shows are pretaped, and only weather will be live (but on a timer with nobody to keep them on air if they accidentlally run over time alloted). https://fb.watch/vKjuHgYBOf/0 points

And even if they did have cable they’d be turned off by the numerous never-Trump Republicans the network has.0 points

Exactly! How many cable networks/ota syndication channels air Friends and Law & Order SVU reruns?? Too many. I wish cable executives acknowledged that the abandonment of niche programming in favor of reality shows, syndicated sitcom reruns and movies also killed cable. Well looks like MSNBC's shelf life just got extended another four years. I don't like MSNBC but I can see why they're popular. Like Fox and unlike CNN they have strong personalities that can pull an audience and market projects like books and podcasts. A podcast by Rachel Maddow is more of a draw factor than Who's Talking to Chris Wallace. MSNBC is also leftist comfort food. It's an echo chamber where they don't bring on dissenting voices. Because everyone mostly agrees you don't get smackdown scream TV like CNN.0 points

The ratings are in for last night. FOX News Channel won overall, followed by ABC News which was closely followed by MSNBC. MSNBC beat NBC again (after beating them in 2020 & the 2022 mid-terms) and beat CNN for the first time (although they did beat CNN for the 2022 mid-terms). CNN had its lowest ratings since 1996. So while the country may have elected a far right leader, it's still a very divided country and there is clearly still an audience for the left leaning news MSNBC provides. If Comcast does spin off the NBCU cable networks I hope the new company realizes this and doesn't turn MSNBC into just another bland low rated "both sides" news channel.0 points

I know we have better graphics and we are a high school operation!! To the actual presentation of Amazon's offering, I'm a bit disappointed but I didn't go in expecting much given this clearly was made for profit.0 points
-
You are correct… it’s a giant LED wall (which was okay). They definitely could have chosen a better background image and graphics overall. You would have thought Amazon would have invested some real $$$ into this venture.0 points
-
Agreed about the graphics. What are those lower thirds? There are private YouTubers (and maybe even college stations) that have nicer graphics than that. What are those shapes? What is that font?0 points
-
I think it's actually a giant LED wall studio? They aren't using any AR graphics. They're bringing guests on via a TV screen on a rolling cart... Brian looks/sounds good, but he needed to be teamed up with a stronger group around him. The insert graphics are absolutely awful... poor design, sloppy templates, and the CG system they're using seems to be struggling with them.0 points

I'm more annoyed by the aspect ratio being screwed up than by it not being in HD. And I'm pretty sure CNBC World isn't mostly after-hours trading.0 points

Jesus those L3s are awful. They paid a design firm to make those — let that sink in. Yes, I think they should merge or at least have CNBC simulcast CNBC World after 7pm. Show foreign market coverage like Bloomberg does, instead of Shark Tank and American Greed.0 points
-
Agreed. But CNBC should be merged with CNBC World. I mean, wouldn't CNBC's target audience prefer to follow coverage of international markets instead of repeats of years-old episodes of Shark Tank? At the very least, having the international coverage in the same feed as domestic would avoid silliness such as what happens to CNBC World's non-HD feed on Spectrum: Yup, it gets squished to 4:3 and pillarboxed.
