It'd be nice for once to see a studio in NYC/network flagship actually look decent & not like a downgraded copycat of a sister station in another market like L.A. which as documented here seems to have better news sets than New York & these initial photos from WABC sure look promising in that regard. Speaking of L.A., getting some KABC vibes, especially with the desk & even the background.2 points

You have to admit: this is cool. WMAQ did a special open earlier tonight to celebrate SNL's 50th Anniversary after the network aired a live telecast to mark the occasion.2 points

They did yank MLB Network a couple of years ago, but they're now available separately.2 points

Never too early to start and we have a big one to start the thread out with...Gray is picking up 15 Braves broadcasts and ten spring training games throughout their territory for next year, and yes, good ol' channel 17 (or some games, 17.2) is the flagship as God intended.1 point

Never thought I’d be happy with a WABC set but this looks incredible. That circle 7 logo from above, nice touch. LA, Houston and Philly have the best looks to me but this is about to give them a real run for their money. Can’t wait to see it on air.1 point

Not really … have you seen any of the sets and graphics packages WABC previously had?1 point

I don’t know how it is elsewhere but my experience has been a lot of folks becoming municipal spokespersons and or starting some communication strategy thing.1 point

I wonder what's next for Ellen? Others have found success fter leaving TV news. Michelle Ruiz left knbc and started her own business.1 point

Nothing set in stone yet, but it appears the Arizona Diamondbacks are going to have an OTA package of some form for the upcoming season according to their President & CEO. Certainly the Phoenix market has many options including the 2 indy stations KTVK & KASW, even the MyNetwork affiliate KUTP is viable.1 point

After over two decades at WTVD, most of that anchoring mornings and with now-retired John Clark, Barbara Gibbs won't have to wake up as early as she has been. She's transitioning to their noon and 4:00 p.m. newscasts with Amber Rupinta. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGLNXqsKVIV/?igsh=MXZrZXQ2dW0xM215cA==1 point

Say it with me... another day, another Gray sports rights deal. This time, a spring training deal to carry MY Boston Red Sox. In Hartford, they'll be carried on The WAX, the WFSB brother station that's also the flagship for UConn sports. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1177192713764135&id=1000442025312121 point

Not missed by me, like the RSNs. Let the sports fans pay for their own games.1 point

Part of a WVTM newscast and Sports Extra intro from 2003. This was the time when NBC owned the station and when WBRC was NOT giving you... the First Alert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o20NVOJ8AqE&list=WL&index=2&ab_channel=USA%26CANADATVfrom90s-00s1 point

Outside CBS, you just need Paramount+ because of all the repeats on their channels, and if there's a customer that'll walk because you lost MTV2 and Spongebobnet....I mean Nicktoons, they're beyond help.1 point
-
Google has always been a good "cable" operator. They told Diamond to take a hike with their RSNs and have had relatively few disruptions. The only notable one I can recall was the Disney one in 2021 that took down their channels for a day or two.1 point
-
CBS clearly asking Google to bail them out of their debts and Google is telling them to take a hike. Probably the first time in a while I'll side with Google here1 point

There was that episode back in 2008, IIRC, where they hired another meteorologist to tag team the weather with Jym. It was a huge mistake. He certainly went through ups and downs at WCMH. A great man indeed.1 point

At one point, WDCA in Washington had 1/2-hour live newscasts at 8p & 9p produced by sister station WTTG until switching to their current full-hour 8 p.m. newscast.1 point

I'm sure it had something to do with it wasn't and still isn't technically a legal duopoly. At one point not sure why it didn't happen but in the late 90s the F.C.C. ordered Waterman Broadcasting Corp to spin off WZVN to a 3rd party but it didn't happen.1 point

She was interim president. She was named president, no more interim. Although the headline of the article you included says interim, the article states she is president, as other reports stated.1 point

1) Money. There are certainly far fewer eyeballs watching Plus than the regular CBSEN- that means lower ad rates and lower revenue. 2) Not sure, but John might very well have it in his contract that he gets to do a solo show as he has seemingly had one either on air or on the streamer since his stint on FTN (with a few small gaps)1 point
-
I get that sentiment and agree with it but it’s probably unlikely that viewers determine who they watch based off of set design.1 point

I thought that Pictionary was doing well in the ratings I'm surprised that got cancelled truth be told I think that WOTV will just air of the newer game shows come fall of 2025. I'm not surprised by Person, Place, Or Thing getting cancelled I didn't think it was going to last all that long as that was aired in the graveyard on FOX17. Dish Nation I was quite surprised it lasted as long as it did truth be told I thought it be a goner years ago but I guess it had a niche following why it stayed on for 10+ years in syndication. As for the bubble shows that aren't TMZ, TMZ Live, & Sherri WBD shows that will stay is Extra since that is lead in on most FOX O&O's for TMZ & JHud. I think True Crime News could very well be the odd show out I hope that will be renewed that one is truly on the bubble in my opinion.1 point

The difference between 2020, when everything reality with a cop was pulled from television, allegedly never to return, is now very obvious...now Free TV is coming out with an entire subchannel network called Busted...it's another A&E library rerun mill with COPS, Jail, Wildest Police Videos and all of A&E's various Cam and Wars shows.1 point

The Rangers will also be launching a new RSN (funny saying that considering it's the initials) called Rangers Sports Network. Wonder if, considering they're using the same streaming platform as the Mavericks & Stars, if in the future, games of those teams will air there as well, I think that'd be a move they'd consider to fill air time in the Winter months. Select games will air on KDAF (CW/Dallas-Ft. Worth). Local TV stations outside DFW airing games shown on KDAF:https://mktg.mlbstatic.com/rangers/documents/y2025/2025_OTA_Map_FNL.pdf1 point

KTLA has probably lost a lot of ad revenue over the last 3 days from non-stop fire coverage and because of that, they have been airing so much commercial breaks during the 1:30-2pm half hour and only like 15-30 seconds or 1 minute of news in between those breaks.1 point

Yesterday on Christmas Eve, I was taking a little break from the news cycle but I did see a little bit of Omar Lewis doing double duty at 11am and 10pm but I'm not making a big deal out of it because it is the holidays and the main anchors deserve time off because of the holiday season. Merry Christmas everyone.1 point
