Very concerning. CBS News feels the need to bow down to a president with authoritarian tendencies to have their Paramount/Skydance merger go through.2 points

The mod team has established that we have too many of these catch-all threads, and it's not just a logo or correspondent change that's leading to its creation. This specific storyline with the show isn't likely going away anytime soon. It may evolve and eventually turn into a catch-all, but this feels important enough, at this time, to keep this as a single topic discussion.2 points

If anything screams '2000s imagining consultants imagining what the kids like', it was their branding the most at that time; "43 The Block" remains on the hill of worst station brandings above "JoeTV" and that short time KWGN was "The Deuce". "Cleveland's 43" is a signal that there are finally adults in the room.1 point

WUAB has a "new" logo....as they transition back into an independent station when the CW moves (back) to WBNX. WBNX is now owned by Nexstar and from what I'm hearing, is now being operated remotely by one of Nexstar's hubs. It's a long time coming. WUAB has suffered greatly since the Raycom days and going independent again will hopefully be a good thing, especially since Nexstar has watered down the CW into a crap network with "wider" appeal.1 point

As long as 47 is in charge, I don't believe a word he says until it's either struck down or confirmed by a judge. That's why we have the separation of powers.1 point

It’s textbook. We’ve seen this play out over and over in countries throughout history and around the globe. It never, ever ends well.1 point

It appears the MMM group has moved their logo (after years of it being on the left) to the right and also made the graphics boxes LARGER . Not sure if this is a pre-cursor to a larger change , but now the logo on the right side rotates between the logo, Channel3000.com, and News3Now. (Also can confirm WKBT has this look now as well)..but not a huge fan of this constant right box change and the much larger text box...the before was the correct size ...but just 1 opinion Before: After"1 point

KUSI says GMSD is the “most watched” local news. Probably some cume over the long broadcast. They found a sizable loyal niche for that product and anchor team. On the evening they show 4 shots with the desk showing. 10pm they tend to lead the ratings.1 point
-
If you are on instagram, you can search KUSI-TV under places and look under the Recent tab. There’s so many pictures and videos of the studio and newsroom. The set up pretty much looks like how NBC Bay Area and Telemundo is with studios next to each other with a massive newsroom. It’s kind of hard to see the KSWB side of the KUSI newsroom since the studio is dark so you can’t tell if their studio is even done or not. Do we even know when their move in date is since they’re still at the other building?! It would be nice if they kept their 360 desk. It’s so unique how BDI designed it. At least yay it’s an upgrade for KUSI but like you said, they never mentioned its debut or gave us a tour of the new set at least. I feel like the set is still underwhelming with them having a newscast with segments that could’ve utilized more studio space besides a desk, an interview area and green screen. Not sure about the tight shots. It’s pretty much up to the director in the control room to call the shots. Remember, KUSI is more of an older audience, they don’t care about studio shots and jib cameras panning in the studio. Unlike FOX5, they are all about that stuff. its also still surprising while looking at the videos on instagram that the newsroom is still dark. I mean all the computers and TV Monitors are not functioning and it’s almost 6 months in after the remodel.1 point

Josh Fitzpatrick has been absent from WVIR Charlottesville's airwaves for quite some time. Now we know why and its for a VERY SERIOUS and troubling reason. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1079707280857361&id=100064542982163 EDIT: He actually left in early March. https://www.29news.com/2025/04/23/former-29news-meteorologist-arrested-extortion-charges/1 point

It looks like WTVY has taken up the last 10 or so minutes of their weeknight 10pm news in favor of... First Alert Weather Extra. No, this is not a separate half-hour program like WBRC or a weekly program like KWTX, its included into the weeknight 10pm news and for a small market like this, it works considering they find enough content to fill the time.1 point
-
This is kind of off topic, but I tuned in to KUSI recently to just see how the set looks in action, and they barely even show the set. They are still using a very tight 2 shot at the anchor desk, so you never see the desk. There are no pans, no stand ups; and then the only other shot I saw being used was of the interview set. Not sure if it has anything to do with construction of KSWB's set, but I just found it really odd. But aside from that, their product is awful. I was watching the morning news and they need new anchors immediately. Paul Rudy is not anchor material at all. Not sure if Lauren would be better with someone else, but at the very least, Paul needs to be relegated back to just sports. They really need help on the KUSI side.1 point

This one being two hours on Mondays makes me think MSNBC should do something similar for Maddow's show when she returns to Monday-only and let her have two hours as well. Lawrence O'Donnell is undoubtedly eying retirement, so he might be happy to cut back to four nights.1 point

Yeesh. I made more than the high end of that at my last job, and I didn't have to appear on-camera.1 point

It looks like WROC-TV Rochester is finally going to be adding some weekend morning news as they're currently looking for a Meteorologist for that position. However, the pay... is why this company is shitty. https://nexstar.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/nexstar/job/Weekend-Morning-Meteorologist_REQ-35993?fbclid=IwY2xjawJ1ZMhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHtb8PHwrm3XKLq5d5TSHZxFpbu4u4AuQPYD5-6u4Hx1YvdCcucbT76kob-JB_aem_WTtZJA7HUrxCnfo6fFmuUQ1 point

@24994J Why the name change to the thread? Isn't “60 Minutes” a better catch all for any news related to the program, just like the evening and morning programs having similar threads?1 point

Canada TVO's The Agenda with Steve Paikin is coming to an end on June 27th after 19 seasons. Steve has been with TVO since 1992 after working for the CBC for seven years beforehand. He'll still do the weekly podcast, #onpoli plus other public engagements for TVO. https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/tvo-agenda-steve-paikin-1.75156941 point

I was wondering what on earth that "Remarkable Woman" special was on the CW Sunday night; it seemed so vague as to be a time-buy from some group you expect to carry a generic 'salute to gospel' or 'independent film showcase (of whatever they could get cheap)' that you see on Sundays on a station that doesn't have the NFL doubleheader and the home team is on the other station. It felt like some kind of bizarre Queen for a Day rehash. It also seems kind of insulting to anyone not in a Nexstar market, because the states without a station just came off as having very 'unexceptional women' (they drew 11 randomly from NewsNation but like...just spread them across each state. There's no reason outside Perry's ego that Alaska shouldn't have a 'remarkable woman'). Outside of sports and the good shows they bought, The CW is really no better than the 'i for infomercial' era of Ion at this point.1 point

Question: Last year or so, WHO in Des Moines introduced former KCCI meteorologist Metinka Slater to their station... I've yet to see her do anything on-air and a search of their website only shows the same introduction clip... Has anyone heard if she's even doing anything there?? (Not sure if this question belongs here or in Out & About -- move if needed)1 point

Network O&Os are sending anchors and reporters. WNBC is sending anchor David Ushry and reporter Gaby Acevedo. I believe WABC sent Mike Marza. I don't know about WCBS.1 point

It'll be interesting to see if any of the main evening news anchors are actually en route to Rome & considering the time of day the news broke here early in the morning, wouldn't be surprised if this is the case, that they're reporting from the Vatican in time for tonight's newscasts at 6:30 ET.1 point

I moved this to General TV, as this thread can be a catch-all for coverage and anchor plans. Precedent suggests that the funeral will happen 4-6 days after death. May he rest in peace, and may the college of cardinals choose a successor to continue Francis' legacy of humanity and compassion.1 point

WTAE is pretty much the only station putting in any effort. KDKA or “CBS NEWS PITTSBURGH” is coasting on its heritage and the effects of Apollo are evident in the product WPXI is putting out.1 point

And within the last year and a half or so, KDKA and WPXI stopped using Chopper 2/Chopper 11, which has left Sky 4 from WTAE as Pittsburgh’s only news helicopter.1 point

WRAL is currently flying N6TY, which was formerly assigned to KMOV. WRAL's own N553HD which has always been registered to Capitol Broadcasting is now registered to Helicopters, Inc. and hasn't flown since February. Word is that it is undergoing rehabbing. But either way, it does look like WRAL has sold their chopper and outsourced the service.1 point

See how long it's been since I've watched Spokane news? I know KPAX (Scripps/CBS) in Missoula does the ticker and WX forecast/stocks at the bottom of the screen. Maybe I was confusing KXLY with KPAX.1 point

Yikes large white box L3s. At least the time-temperature bug looks less cramped. Having just discovered the Morgan Murphy group, I will say some of their stations's graphics and sets look better than some stations at larger companies like Sinclair.1 point

KAPP/KV...I meant APPLE VALLEY News Now, finally added time and temperature to the bottom of that little logo box. No ticker like KXLY.1 point

WKBT has had them for over a year. They debuted them when they debuted Ross Overdrive in 2022. It was a test to see if their VP of news actually liked this vision or if he wanted to switch back to the old look. (I worked there during this transition.)1 point

Yeah I REALLY wish MMM would get rid of the news ticker, it provides zero value and is more of a distraction.1 point

It seems 2/9 and 11 will have their own choppers. 3 choppers, 2 branded, 1 backup. N39CL is dual branded as of now, FOX11 on one side, Sky 2 on the other side. I wonder, how they will brand the 2nd chopper.1 point
-
It seems to be 2 choppers now so they may or may not be sharing in the future or end up using 1 each for the morning and evening flights.1 point

I wonder if I wonder if it’ll be shared with KCBS/KCAL or if it’ll be KTTV’s own. Either way, it looks nice. I love the blue paint job.1 point

MSNBC has announced its new schedule and program names: The Weeknight with Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez starts on May 5 at 7 p.m., airing from 7-9 p.m. on Mondays and 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays - Fridays. The Briefing with Jen Psaki starts on May 6, airing Tuesdays - Fridays at 9 p.m. The Weekend (AM & PM editions) both start on May 3 at 7am and 6pm. I am assuming Ali Velshi’s expanded time slot will start May 3 as well? MSNBC is still searching for new studio and newsroom space in NYC according to the article. Rather unoriginal in the naming, not sure why they feel the need to change the name of Jen’s show as there is nothing wrong with “inside”, but whatever works I guess. Weekends are going to be very redundant and near constant repetition, I wish a 2 hour weekend block of MSNBC Reports from 9pm-11pm would be launched, a late night news option when CNN and Fox are on replays would be nice. https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/msnbc-the-weeknight-the-briefing-premiere-dates/0 points
