I believe they'll appoint John Muller and cancel the weekend morning edition. They've been shortening its duration for a few months now...

Craig Treadway says goodbye to WPIX, after over a quarter-century. Most of that time was spent as part of the PIX11 Morning News crew.

It's a shame that he didn't get the chance to say goodbye to viewers on air considering his long time there, although very few departures at PIX have happened in a graceful, mutual way (the only exception I can think of was Tamsen Fadal, who got a huge cake and everything when she left). Nearly all the others were sudden absences (Byron Miranda, Alex Lee, Oji, Betty Nguyen). It seems the morning show is particularly unstable

They seem to have cancelled the 5pm news on Saturday even when they don't have a sporting event dring that time.

Sounds like they pulled the pin for him.

I don't understand how you get rid of someone after 25 years and not let them say goodbye on the air, unless he did something inappropriate, which seems unlikey

You are talking about Nexstar here.  Despite claiming to the FCC they invest in news, expand news, the reality seems to be the opposite.  Luckily there is no duopoly in NYC, because elsewhere they consolidate newsrooms, and eliminate news so not to compete with themselves.

For those not aware, WGN dismissed 9 anchors/reporters yesterday, and KTLA knocked out at least 3 on-air talent, as well. Now, after confirmation from a Nexstar source, WPIX has made some high profile cuts of their own.

Gone as of today are:

  • Kori Chambers, lead/late co-anchor
  • Arrianee Lebeau, early evening co-anchor
  • John Muller, weekend morning & original weekday morning co-anchor

There could be more, but those are the only names we have, at this time.

Wow. I’m pretty sure John Muller was just on air yesterday or Sunday doing snow coverage.

I’m going to just guess that Houston’s KIAH had their entire news department decimated?

Any number of people from behind the scene?

Not aware, at this time. The cuts at the sister stations have seemingly all been on-air talent.

Wow, after reading the subsequent major cuts happening at WGN and KTLA, WPIX is certainly not alone in this, but this is pretty much most of their major anchors/main faces. I think it is safe to assume these cuts were also responsible for Craig Treadway's departure. Especially sad to hear John Muller who, like Craig, is a longtime veteran.

Please send the source. John is a veteran since the Morning News Debut on 5 June 2000. He did a lot of contribution to PIX since returning on 14 July 2014. Seeing him go is another major loss for PIX. Just shortly after Craig Treadway resigned less than 2 weeks ago. My hypothesis is Nexstar was broke AF, knowing these veterans deserve recognition.

As Nexstar seeks approval to buy Tegna and disregard the caps, they claim they build news,  yet these actions this week across most of Nexstar's big market stations (note in violation of FCC action, WPIX is not owned directly by Nexstar, but their sidecar Mission Broadcasting only to get around station caps) shows that their claims in their FCC application are false.

I like John, so hoping he lands on his feet…Good Day New York would be nice!

What a shame though for everyone involved…hopefully nobody else loses their job!  Please wrap Kaity in bubble wrap, as she is the best over there still after all these years!

In a late addition, morning traffic anchor Alexa Farrell is also out.

Mike Masco was doing traffic this morning. This is the very first time a male personality was doing traffic and over a decade.

Somehow Mr.G has survived any and all rounds of cuts and changes.

Who has been anchoring with Vanessa since Craig left? Last night Shirley Chan anchored solo at 10.

She was alone during the block from 4am to 7am. Perhaps they'll add Kirstin Cole to anchor alongside her in the coming days (she's been alternating with John Muller since Craig was fired).

With John's dismissal, we can say that the weekend morning show is over, right?

I'm curious to see how the schedule will be divided for tonight's performance, since only Kendis Gibson and Shirley Chan are left.

The station has yet to announce these changes with the weekend a.m. show. The same way how in 2016 went to 6:30 p.m. show was canceled very quietly
