tvnewsjunkie 6
Update that debuted 9/2/14. Includes new rear projection background used for topical graphics, and update newsroom shots (looks to me like LA newsroom). There are more photos on my flickr page. (sorry but couldn't upload them all for some reason). https://www.flickr.com/photos/126675500@N05/?details=1 I personal love it and hate it. I like the fact that they got rid of the monitor wall as the home base background like it because i hate the line. I hate it because it just looks awkward with the orange accent to the set and looks like a combo of the old set from 2012 and the set from studio 3C years ago. It looks like they've made the set smaller. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13855-nbc-nightly-news/ Share on other sites
BehindNYNews 146
Everyone was so focused on David Muir and Charlie Rose that this went right passed us. I don't like the update. NYNewser_676 26
This evening, studio 3B received a slight studio update, which included what looks to be a repositioning of the desk and some overall sharpening up of the features of the set. One of the most significant changes is the fact that large monitors behind Williams now serve as the OTS graphics for most segments. MidwestTV 1222
Personally I don't really mind the updates; it's the newsroom shots that I don't like. They're obviously fake. The old ones at least looked mildly realistic, but these it's just so obvious that it's being projected behind him. rkolsen 1681
I can't for the life of me figure out where the desk is located. Is it still in the same spot as it always has been? To the right hand side of the desk they had this rear projection wall that was used in the original NN/MSNBC news complex that was moved over. For a minute I thought they extended the elevated platform and placed the desk there. The one thing I do not like is their use of the LA bureaux as new background video loop. When they are on a tight shot it (to me and the people over at NewscastStudio who I tipped them off to) agreed with me that it made it appear that they were actually in LA. I know it's not discernible to the average viewer but as we news junkies would notice a thing like this. I wonder if the background was recorded/played out at 4K. https://twitter.com/newscaststudio/status/506982387801419776 I also wonder if they considered piping in the live camera feed as backdrop. rkolsen 1681
Now that I'm looking at it closer it appears they actually moved the desk up against the elevated catwalk where Rock Center was usually shot. When the show started you could see a crease from where they pushed the anchor desk and platform up against the elevated portion of the set. Now there is a larger monitor wall where all the television tchotchkes were. Updated:Just looked back at an old Rock Center and yes they moved everything to a different corner of the studio. They just simply removed the faux window framing. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13855-nbc-nightly-news/#findComment-113831 Share on other sites

johnnya2k6 171
For now, at least. What do you mean "for now"? Nightly News will remain on top (at least in overall viewers) because Brian Williams is more relatable. And ABC boasting that they're "proud to put on the best broadcast every night with first rate journalism and information that helps our viewers better understand the world"? Yeah...during the Peter Jennings era! Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13855-nbc-nightly-news/#findComment-116804 Share on other sites

And ABC boasting that they're "proud to put on the best broadcast every night with first rate journalism and information that helps our viewers better understand the world"? Yeah...during the Peter Jennings era! I don't think Brian will hold onto the lead, the momentum is blowing in one direction and that's ABC's. That gap has gone from more than a million viewers to 170,000. It's only a matter of time. Furthermore, NN has turned more fluff in the last few months itself. Can you really judge ABC's broadcast while defending NBC's. The only true credible national newscast is CBS and Scott Pelley. ToriElectra 292
I agree; I trust CBS News, especially Scott Pelley, as well as CBS This Morning, more than ABC now, though my dad is set in his ways (he did watch during the Jennings and Gibson years, so he stuck out of habit), but, he at least watches the PBS NewsHour to make up for it (he loves Shields and Brooks). rkolsen 1681
Apparently this just happened not long ago... Yes I saw that live but I'd like to think that the average person would no urinate in front of a hot camera minutes away from his live hit. I would like to think that they would a move to the wooded area out of frame. I mean the guy was perfectly centered on screen. Maybe he was using his phone and didn't have the touch screen gloves. I know I have put one glove between my legs as I have to free my hand to get mail from a locked mailbox. Plus I don't know what man would risk getting his gloves covered in piss right between his legs. If anything I'd stick it in my armpit if I had to urinate. Mannym13 15
Tonight on Nightly, I believe they just debuted a new mini desk where Brian stands behind and teases the stories in front of a monitor to his left, our right. Gone is the intro from the side view of the desk with Brian spinning around at the end of the opening tease. I don't recall seeing this last week, so I think it's brand new. Can anyone confirm? It looks nice and glossy, btw. I should add that the desk and monitor are located to the right of the main desk. rkolsen 1681
That miniature desk is the one (or similar design) used during Rock Center and I think that monitor has been used in MSNBC's studio 3K. There have been a few cases where Brian has done a Nightly standup from that desk in the past year. But last week they did the cold open with out the desk but with him standing in front of his regular news desk.
