I think Nora's Washington set is the best of the big three and I would have liked a recreation of that. At first glance this okay but definitely not better than the Washington set.

Overall, It's remarkable how CBS went from the network with the worst sets to the best sets. IDK who their current design consultant is but stick with them!

Looks good, but I'd like to see it without the studio equipment blocking the view.

What studio is that? I don't recognize it. I thought we were all speculating that they were moving back into Studio 47 because that hasn't been on the air in a while?

I have to agree that CBS doing something different. Im exciting to find out what the tone will be. The broadcast sounds like the CBC NATIONAL. They used subtle graphics with frosted panels and simple elements and they also did the triple anchor presentation. THe programme lasts an hour.

Just from this photo alone, I'm getting Studio 1515 (the studio in Times Square) and KCAL/KCNC/WBBM set vibes. The new anchor desk looks exactly like the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM anchor desks (just without the wood border around the front screen), the walls of screens are similar to the walls of screens in Studio 1515, and the color of the wood floor and some structural elements are similar to the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM sets.

I think it's 47. They probably changed the set's orientation in which the newsroom looks 'into' the set instead of the newsroom serving as the background. We'll find out soon enough....

Part of me feels like they want the new CBS EN to look/feel like a local CBS O&O newscast (using a similar desk, flooring, etc...). Including, based on the aforementioned picture, images of Chicago and SF (?). Even the new promo had a 'news from the heartland' feel to it. They need to differentiate themselves from Nightly and WNT in order to draw people in. Creating a national newscast that feels like a local one would be interesting.

New SR L3s on CBS. Follows the same template as CBS News 24/7, the Evening News, and the O&Os.

Saw that during the Biden farewell address as well. It looks eeeh. CBS has had some really strange special report L3s for the last few years. Too flat and rectangular. Good color though.

OCD moment...CBS was smart in slotting the presidential farewell address for a full 30 minutes. Unlike the other networks they don't have misaligned time slots causing local newscasts to start late.

Norah handling the inauguration before bowing out is classy on CBS’s part

Yes very nice to allow Norah to anchor the Inauguration coverage, which is good since she has anchored the political coverage the past few years. Gives a since of continuity and completion to the election coverage, and good be a way to introduce Dubois and Dickerson into the coverage if they choose to. Might be helpful to the transition.

Wasn't it that way in the 80s w/Rather (and any and all substitutes), when that wireframe world map was the backdrop?

I think the CBS Evening News may be the best network broadcast, both journalistically and aesthetically. And Nora O'Donnell is polished, polite, and professional. I just don't understand why they are making these talent changes. Well, nevermind, I guess it all comes down to the ratings and the demographics. But I thought Nora otherwise was doing an excellent job. In previous generations, growing up, my preferred news anchors were Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, and then I transitioned to Peter Jennings.

I agree that CBS News is the best TV news organization quality wise. IMO 60 minutes, CBS Mornings, Sunday Morning, and Face The Nation are the best shows in their genres.

Every time CBSEN rebrands we ponder why it remains in third place. Currently it's the best looking broadcast with similar story choice to the competition, so I really don't know.

Part if it could be viewers never warmed up to Nora. Maybe David Muir and Lester Holt are bigger household names. Maybe historic viewership habits: people never returned after Cronkite.

Why has CBSEN been in third historically?

Dan Rather was a solid anchor, maybe people identified with Jennings and Brokaw a little bit more. Bob Schiffer was interim hosting, no telling what may have happened down the line. Katie Couric was a big name but I think her softer approach and editorials turned off viewers. Scott pelley was stiff, and Jeff Glor was unknown. Likewise ABC and NBC had stronger anchors since the big three era ended.

What can CBSEN do to get out of third... IDK. Maybe international coverage to separate themself from the other two shows?

I want to say at some point the set was semi-enclosed (doing the time you mentioned), but faced the same direction (toward the newsroom). In theory, this new set could be still face the same direction/orientation it just tough to say for certain.

According to Deadline: She added that she has “made a long-term commitment to CBS News to continue to do the same storytelling and big interviews that have been our hallmark. I will continue to contribute to Evening News and all of our news broadcasts, including 60 Minutes.”

They could return her to the morning news since Nate Burleson is now busy with the game show and sports telecasts, but I think he has been a good addition so I don't foresee any changes there.
