TriangleTriadMediaNews 267 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 SiriusXM will be offering a simulcast of the Weather Channel to anyone with a Sirius or XM radio, regardless of subscription status, starting tomorrow night at 7pm EDT/4pm PDT on Sirius channel 137 and XM channel 202.
10Viewer 338 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 In Tampa/St. Pete, WTSP is in an evacuation zone and, according to Bobby Deskins, the station will probably be evacuating to the Florida State Fairgrounds. The station last evacuated in 2004 and 1985. EDIT: They are evacuating to WMOR's studio facility in east Tampa. It looks very cramped.
rkolsen 1686 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 EDIT: They are evacuating to WMOR's studio facility in east Tampa. It looks very cramped. Who knew WMOR had a "studio". I'd expect they'd be in some office building where in order to meet the studio requirement would be a prosumer camera with an HDSDI output with a cable strewn through the hall way to master control.
Georgie56 3324 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I wonder what they use WMOR's "studio" for, since they have no newscasts of any kind.
NewEnglandOne 17 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 All four network stations are providing live coverage online, here are a few links as they can be a pain to find on their sites at time: WFOR CBS 4: http://miami.cbslocal.com/video/channel/316-live-video/ WTVJ NBC 6: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Watch-Live-NBC-6-News-204316851.html WSVN FOX 7: http://wsvn.com/on-air-live-stream/ WPLG ABC 10: https://www.local10.com/live/watch-the-local-10-news Also, a separate question... WSVN plans to continue their coverage from their studios, even though they are in an evacuation zone and right on the water (google maps photos attached). Anyone local know how safe their building is and how bad flooding could get in that area? I would not be showing up to work for this if I worked at WSVN, that's for sure!
news89 468 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I haven't been to South Florida since Dec 2011, and I did get a chance to drive by "The News Station". I sure wouldn't want to be anywhere near there when Irma comes thru.

If those fools are staying, then I'm expecting one hell of a show. Someone must be convinced that building has a high survive-ability factor. I guess if your going to die on the air...it's much cooler to die at WSVN then say in front of a Shell Gas station. Good luck folks! I will be watching for as long as the feed stays up.
24994J 5624 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 They're prepared to go to higher ground...
Eat News 4745 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 They're prepared to go to higher ground... And they are re-training the reporters and "anchors"...
Weeters 1969 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 They're prepared to go to higher ground... This is the best post on the site in recent memory.
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Wonder if Directv/Uverse will start up their Severe Weather Channel again as Irma gets closer. So far I haven't seen anything yet.
WWUpdate 1292 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Cuban TV coverage of hurricane Irma -- a live YouTube stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z780yf99j-w
NowBergen 696 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Palm Beach stations are also wall to wall. NBC WPTV which the network uses too, lost its roof in one hurricane.
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Now that it seems like the Ft. Myers-Naples market is going to get the brunt of Irma. Here are a list of streams for that area. WBBH (NBC2)- http://www.nbc-2.com/category/300756/nbc2-247-streaming-video WZVN (ABC7)- http://www.abc-7.com/category/168380/abc7-live-stream WBBH and WZVN are operated by the same company so these might end up being simulcast later on. WINK (CBS)- http://www.winknews.com/live/ WFTX (Fox4)- http://www.fox4now.com/watch-live
Rusty Muck 4402 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 WSVN has been at that site since ... what... the early 1960s? If not "day one?"** They could be in the same damn predicament as KHOU was. **Day one, I mean, in 1962, when Sunbeam took over the operations of WCKT/7 under a separate broadcast license (Cox/Knight were stripped of the previous license).
Rusty Muck 4402 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 They're prepared to go to higher ground... This wins the internet for the day.
LoadStar 364 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Palm Beach stations are also wall to wall. Hearst sent WISN's Sheldon Dutes down to assist WPBF with their coverage. I expect they may have also sent a few other reporters from other stations.
Rusty Muck 4402 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I did hear that Cox Media sent additional engineers down to Orlando and Jacksonville to assist their radio and television operations. WDBO 96.5 and WOKV 104.5 are now on with solid wall-to-wall rolling coverage. Not sure if their television counterparts, WFTV and WJAX/WFOX, have done the same.
MidwestTV 1240 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Miami has taken direct hits before. How did WSVN fare in those storms?
David Salter JR 66 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Will the big 4 networks interrupt tomorrow's college football telecasts for hurricane reports?
MikePulse 318 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Outside the WSVN studios. And the storm is still 300 miles out.
10Viewer 338 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Who knew WMOR had a "studio". I'd expect they'd be in some office building where in order to meet the studio requirement would be a prosumer camera with an HDSDI output with a cable strewn through the hall way to master control. WTSP showed the WMOR production studio they will broadcast from. It looked to be maybe 500 sq ft. tops with a green screen on two walls. Maybe they use it for promo spots? Tegna/Gannett has invested a lot of money into renovating WTSP's studio facility, adding hurricane shutters, and a 6,000 sq. ft. addition, so doesn't seem like they intend to relocate despite the storm surge threat from any hurricanes.
nathannah 2500 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 I did hear that Cox Media sent additional engineers down to Orlando and Jacksonville to assist their radio and television operations. WDBO 96.5 and WOKV 104.5 are now on with solid wall-to-wall rolling coverage. Not sure if their television counterparts, WFTV and WJAX/WFOX, have done the same. The Sentinel said that Orlando stations will likely pacify the college football fans for the day by not breaking into those games and having commercial break updates, then go wall-to-wall when the games are over. Likely the same for Jacksonville (and I can't say I blame them; the last thing you need on your switchboard/Facebook is Bob McRazorbacksFan annoyed you're pre-empting the game in this situation, and this gives plenty of time to position everyone before landfall). And if they do go wall-to-wall, all the stations in Orlando except WKMG have sister stations with nothing airing to bump network stuff over to (WKMG will blow out their .2 Cozi in that case).
Jess 1116 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Looks like the networks have extensive plans, as per Stelter. They'll be doing SRs as needed between sports commitments. All three networks are going to basically pre-empt their normal Sunday morning lineups.
