MediaCriticLA 14 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 A small thing, but I noticed that ABC7 is now calling its helicopter "Air7" instead of "Air7HD." I guess it makes sense, nobody is touting the fact that they broadcast in color anymore either!
Encore 323 27 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I don’t know when exactly it started this week but KABC brought back talent opens to the newscasts for the first time since 2012. I just caught one at 4:30 this evening. 3
bogusabc7breakingnews 63 Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 Oh cool, I’ll have to check it out. I always wondered why markets 1 and 3 have talent opens but not LA. Separately, I caught the end of the 5:00pm show today and the two shot of the anchors was actually split and Marc Brown was in a different studio. I know COVID numbers are spiking in SoCal - are we back to this for a bit? Have all shows been doing this?

There's evidence that they entertained bringing them back with the new graphics, but apparently opted out.
CraigViewer 79 Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Given that the 11pm weekday newscasts on KABC are fast paced and minimalistic with music and graphics (especially when teasing stories before commercial breaks), it will be interesting to see whether or not the talent opens make it to these newscasts.
MorningNews 1528 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 This talent open format, similar to WABC, feels super disjointed. Was this video sped up at all? 1
Amra 171 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 They aren't bad. They need to use the "correct" track. And com'on now KABC, give the 11PM to Jovana. It's time.

Vlad 336 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I still dearly miss their previous music.. But great execution of the new package! I guess when I go to LA it will feel like I'm at home with the WABC theme haha.
JTT 115 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 (edited) OK. I thought Marc Brown was going to consider retiring or stepping back with his duties. Now, that I ghink of it, he's still got some active years left before retiring. He's almost 10 years younger than Dallas Raines. Edited September 9, 2024 by JTT

Dallas is 70 and Marc is 62.

J.W. Rodriguez 17 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 ABC7's Leanne Suter opens up about skin cancer diagnosis, surgery https://abc7.com/post/abc7s-leanne-suter-opens-skin-cancer-diagnosis-surgery/15566516/ Man, what a tough year it has been for L.A. broadcasting since a number of local reporters have encountered health problems, with a few of them passing away. The most recent one being KCAL's Chauncy Glover.
Encore 323 27 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 ABC7 morning anchor Leslie Sykes celebrated 30 years with the station today and it just shows that Disney really cares about their employees. 1

This is why it scares me to hear CEO Bob Iger talk about Disney getting out of linear television. It seems to be the least worst of the station owners. They deliver a quality newscast with personable talent, and are often number one in a lot of their markets. I would hate to see new ownership quash that.
NYAZSporty 149 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Looks like Air7 is getting a new, updated look soon. https://x.com/marcel_cameraop/status/1868063888173830404 1 1

JTT 115 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) I was watching the news on ch 7 earlier. Ellen Leyva is leaving the station in a few months. Have not seen any articles about it yet, since it was just announced earlier. Just found it. https://abc7.com/post/abc7-anchor-ellen-leyva-retire-29-incredible-years/15890532/ Edited February 11 by JTT

tvnewsfan 2 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Incredible career by Ellen Leyva, she’s been in the LA market since 93 when she started at KCOP, then KABC. Kudos to her!
SDHIll1980 114 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Ellen Leyva will be missed for sure, she's been one of my favorites at 7. Wishing her the very best in her next chapter.
