At least with someone like Perry Sook, he's just LARPing as a media mogul. Not only is Byron Allen LARPing as a wanna-be media mogul, he's been trying to be a comedian his whole career as well.... 3 1
johnothy 53 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 Will CBS stations just be airing syndicated programming after 11:30 next year with no network programming provided?

Nothing has been announced, and the scuttlebutt is that the network will produce a cheaper talk show from the Broadcast Center without an audience or band or musical guests (as above, Bryon Allen has also announced his interest in that slot). 1

The current Morning set could easily handle that on the daily. 2
PhillyWatch 248 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 Adam Pally also hosted a fantastically absurd episode from the CTM set with no audience 2
Megatron81 343 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 I hope CBS doesn't give Byron Wann-be Media Mogul Allen 11:30PM timeslot which CBS isn't giving back to the local stations which I thought they would've done when After Midnight ended. But gave it to Byron Cheapskate Allen and his Comics show that isn't new from 2006 & 2014 or was it 15 when they put out new Comics show. I think that CBS should maybe put a Nightline type show or go with Inside Edition show in that 11:30PM timeslot I don't think a long form interview will work in this day in age in late night in my opinion.

If he does pay his way onto CBS, better hope that it's cash up front, and not a check (that's likely to bounce) 1

For the record, the first episode of every night's pair of CU episodes is new, though on Fridays and when the show's on a break week, it's a repeat from the current run. The second episode of the night (1:07am?) is always from the show's original, pre-CBS run. Also, if CBS decides to start up a new, cheaper talk show in the 11:35 slot, that will only reignite the controversy over whether or not Colbert's show was canceled because of Trump. I kinda doubt Paramount and/or CBS want the PR mess that would result from such a move.

If they start one up with a cheaper host, use studio space they already own in the broadcast center with no audience, no house band- then they show that it was (in part) really because Colbert was losing money. The reality is there that Tonight, Kimmel, and Late Show all have ungodly overheads and declining viewership. 6 hours ago, Megatron81 said: I don't think a long form interview will work in this day in age in late night in my opinion. Respectfully disagree. If they go longform interview without the monologue or comedy bits, there is possibly a place for it- especially at CBS. Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes have always been their cornerstones and both are more longform. Bonus points if they can take excerpts and repack them for Mornings or 24/7. It would be a good opportunity for a show that throws softballs a la Larry King... People don't want hard news and political lectures late night. 1
TVNewsLover 861 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 CBS had the long form format with the original incarnation of the Late Late Show with Tom Snyder. 1

It would have to be a hella lucrative offer and offer him complete and total control over his timeslot. Between The Five and Gutfeld!, evidence is there that he gets to command just about any negotiation. I don't think CBS has the money, nor the willingness to give a host that kind of power. Someone more down-ballot at Fox News is possibly fair game. 2
GodfreyGR 812 Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Not Late Show, but Late Night in the Paramount family... Jon Stewart has been renewed through December 2026. Then again, aside from South Park reruns, what else does Comedy Central have? https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/03/media/jon-stewart-paramount-daily-show-comedy-central-cbs

It is more likely that they will give the job to a Jimmy Fallon type or even someone as political but willing to do a cheaper show (Jon Stewart and Comedy Central have just re-upped for another year, despite how the group treated his longtime comedy partner.)
Georgie56 3661 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 The series finale of The Late Show is May 21.

Might as well CBS just give late night to the affiliates to fill time if this was what they were planning on as replacement programming. 4
