Is ABC actively looking for other stations to air the show in the affected markets?

Making such a move requires a lot of long-term planning and is not something that can be done overnight. This whole ordeal is very, very complex and complicated.

Nexstar owns the ABC affiliation in 2 of the SEC markets (and will own two more if the Tegna deal gets through). Sinclair has it in one of the markets. The rest is a hodgepodge of companies.

One other thing I'd watch to see if any of the remaining independently-owned ABC affiliates (examples: KTBS, WBRZ, WDAY) try to join Sinclair and Nexstar in boycotting as well. There aren't that many of them, but they would have a bit more leverage.

I can confirm KTBS won't be boycotting Kimmel. For that matter, WICS and WDAY aren't either.

Kimmel handled this extremely well. ABC somehow comes out of this looking better for ultimately standing by their late night guy even if it took some time. A very strong statement he’s making on freedom of speech and freedom of the press that we have to fight for under this administration.

I guess I'll catch up when I can since WLOX dropped off the air RIGHT WHEN JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE STARTED!

It's too strange to be a coincidence.  I get a strong signal from them and the other South Mississippi stations are coming in clear as a bell.  I hope to god it was not something deliberate with the station's signal.

It's come in and out over the last half hour, but something is very wrong with their transmitter right now....

My God I hope it happens.... Too bad ABC doesn't have the Big Ten anymore, or they could pull the same stunt in Columbus with WSYX.

There's going to be some pissed viewers in Mobile, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Macon, Tulsa, Nashville, Charleston, New Orleans and any other Sinclair or Nexstar ABC market with a strong SEC fan base....

Full monologue.

Again, I usually skip Kimmel's monologue, but this time I had to watch, and he handled it well.

Exactly what do Nexstar and Sinclair want?  Jimmy (sort of) apologized about any misinterpretations of his comment. He even praised Charlie Kirk's wife for her forgiveness of the shooter. Do the affiliate owners  actually want him to donate to Turning Point USA?

Jimmy was actually gracious to ABC. That's a lot more than many hard-core comedians in his position would have done.

So now does that MSpinlessNBC commentator Matthew Dowd get his job back?

I'm extremely curious to see what the overnight ratings were for his return

Add in the DVR ratings, as I was not up but did DVR it.

What did Nexstar stations do to fill the hour? Here in Topeka, KTKA (which simulcasts news of KSNT) had a "News Extra," followed by bumping up "Extra."

Yes, due to Mizzou.

Thing is ABC/ESPN also broadcast ACC and others.

In St. Louis' case, live sports is the only thing that probably gets decent viewership on KDNL.  Even the network programs like GMA get hash marks because of Sinclair's historic mismanagement of that station.

If ABC pulls out from Sinclair, Gray and KMOV should get it by default simply because of the monopoly Nexstar has in the market and will get even worse if/when they get KSDK.

And because ESPN isn't really good at hockey broadcasting you obviously get a whole bunch of 'turn up the radio' viewers when the Blues make their 'once in a blue moon' appearance on ABC, which is literally their only pro sports blip outside Metro East supporters of Chicago teams.

This isn't even accounting for the Sony game shows now streaming on Hulu and Peacock, meaning if you can't stand the Nexstar or Sinclair station it airs on now you can vote with your remote now that they're not the only game in town. Sony has to be sick of hearing complaints about political advertising on those shows and having news promos from those stations with the same tone ruining the 'fun' mood they try to set (once the first few months of streaming ratings come out, we're in for a very rude awakening, I predict).

at one point, Simpsons reruns were the highest rated syndicated product on that station

If this dispute goes long enough, could the sports leagues that Nexstar airs on the CW pull their programming in protest?

We're truly living in a FAFO timeline...

They truly do not care.

Only thing new here is this tidbit:

"We are engaged in productive discussions with executives at The Walt Disney Company, with a focus on ensuring the program reflects and respects the diverse interests of the communities we serve."

Whatever that means. I'm willing to bet they want Kimmel to have more conservatives on.

Like how so many others have said (on here and the other social apps), how much longer will Disney let Deathstar Nexstar and Sell Your Soul to Sinclair do this? Bigger question is how many GMs don’t agree with their corporate overlords on this move? Nexstar owns NewsNation, a network with ratings that match that of a small market, and they have been filling the cable waves with Kimmel non-stop, but no one has asked Uncle Perry (or anyone else in Dallas from my knowledge) to come on and explain why this move was made and what will happen if ABC pulls from their stations. We all know Uncle Perry ain’t gonna answer anything.

Meanwhile, there are people out there on social media who mean well but may be slightly confused....

So, we should punish Disney/ABC for Sinclair and Nexstar not honoring their affiliation agreements?

(Also, Too-Far Carr is, last I checked, not a Disney employee.)

Who wants to tell her?  🤦‍♂️

Media literacy has always been an inside baseball thing, and the public needs a crash course ASAP!.... First lesson, all things marked FOX arent conservative. More relevant to this topic, your local station is most likely a franchise and not network owned!
