This morning the show marked Al Roker's 30th year with them. They brought in meteorologists from all over the country to help celebrate:

Is the Today Show going to be broadcasting from the Olympics? If so - is the whole crew going, or just select anchors?

Apparently Savanah will be co-hosting the opening ceremony and Craig will be co-anchoring the nightly Olympic game wrap up with Maria Taylor. So they’ll both be there for a portion of the games at least. I haven’t seen the full coverage plans for NBC News which they usually share.

Last thing I expected to see this morning! Hopefully she is found safe. What makes this particularly concerning is that the Mom reportedly has no cognitive issues according to CNN.

I think I heard Hoda may also be coming back to participate.

It’s obvious why they opted to keep the team in NYC given the horrific news with Savannah’s mother but considering we never saw an announcement about the show’s broadcasting plans even before this, I wonder if Today was planning a more subdued Olympics coverage plan this year.

Any frequent viewers know whether the last few games have had the entire team travel or not?

All of NBC's coverage feels more subdued than usual this year. Quite a bit tonight with Llamas in Milan, But the whole leadup felt flat compared to previous years.

But I'm sure all the special coverage from studio to staff to travel costs a fortune and is only getting more costly- Ad revenue might not be keeping up?

While many NBC O&O's and affiliates have sent local production crews and anchors/reporters to the Winter Olympics, the coverage nationally on NBC is more subdued so far, indeed.  The Winter Olympics are historically a relatively high ratings draw for the network, but less so than the Summer Games.  That could be one of the reasons for the lack of on-air personnel, as far as big NBC is concerned.  I would agree with commenters here that it has more to do with the Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy's, disappearance, however.

NewsNation is reporting that Savannah is considering leaving Today due to the Nancy Guthrie situation.

Honestly has crossed my mind not in her quitting, but how and when does she ever really return to the show regardless of the outcome of the current situation... No matter what she will need a good deal of time off to process/recover, but even then she still can't go back to the show and have everything be completely normal, can she?

If what is being reported in that article is true, there is a lesson for all in broadcasting that there is a fine line in showing that you're a family person and a real human vs. maintaining a private life for you and the family.

I honestly believe that even if Savannah kept her mother from ever being shown on the air, that alone would not have prevented this situation.  Could it have reduced the risk not having the mother on air?  Perhaps, but I don't believe it is constructive to say that families should never be shown on air.  Living in fear is not the answer.

The more constructive thing to consider would be that high-profile anchors and hosts bolster security for immediate family members.

I hope Savannah waits until the situation comes to a resolution before making a long-term decision about her future on Today.  And I hope NBC will give her the space to continue to be off air and yet able to resume if or when she is ready - hopefully after they find her mother still alive.

Hoping for the best possible outcome for the Guthrie family. Regardless, I don't think Savannah will return. My assumption is that Hoda will continue in order to provide consistency and stability as the network focuses on identifying a successor to Savannah. Hoda will remain for six months until said successor is named.

In my opinion, it is pretty pathetic "reporting" for NewsNation. My guess is that Savannah's attention and energy are focused on her mother, and not on work.  This "report" essentially reads like the opinion or theory of a NewsNation Senior Story Editor. (Not even a reporter) Is it possible that Savannah doesn't return? Sure. But many things are possible. I'm sure many people wondered if Katie Couric would return after the loss of her husband.

It is gross for NewsNation to speculate on such things. To me, it is telling that not even Page Six picked up on this. And P6 is the outlet that recently published pictures of Savannah's husband and kids at an airport in Florida, along with descriptions of what the three of them were wearing, as if it were a fashion show. Note to NewsNation: when your gossip is too much for Page Six to cover, you might want to check yourself.

Isn't Ashley Banfield, who spread the rumor of Savanah's brother in law being a suspect, and evidently may still be based on the not so cordial statement from the Pima County Sheriff today, also work for Nectar's NewsNation?  Seems they keep contradicting their claims in their FCC application,.....
