CBS Mornings aired a tribute package for Nora, as today's her last day, (and coincidentally Nora's birthday according to Gayle).

It seems like CBS is trying to be gracious as they ease her out. **Actual video now uploaded

Edit: Oprah also paid tribute to Nora on her last broadcast..

Snippets of the new set as the new duo was interviewed by Maurice's WCBS colleague Mary Calvi. I'm not seeing Deborah Norville on there as often these days.

I'm really hoping the set lighting will look as dim on CBS's cameras because this looks great. I love the diverse landscapes in the background. It makes the broadcast seem more nationally oriented, and not just New York City/East Coast centric. It reminds me of Good Morning America's intro from the early Gibson/Sawyer era.

In this era of washed out HD, dark lighting and warm colors look good.

I’m still a little upset CBS hasn’t decided to do an hour of news in PrimeTime. The US is the only major country from my knowledge that doesn’t have a network newscast during that time period. Canada has Global at 6:30(?), CBC at 10, and CTV at 11. UK Channel 4 at 7, AUS The ABC at 7:30. To be honest, I’m surprised no one tired this during COVID lockdowns.

To be fair, neither does the UK or Australia if you consider the 8-11pm hours as primetime. Global's is mainly at 5:30 with some airing it at 6:00 and others at 6:30.

Also, in Australia, ABC has news throughout the day with the main (regional) news at 7:00 with the same for the BBC but their main is at 10:00.

So this is obviously a Jack Morton Worldwide Set. It's a mirror of KCAL. Are they really using a local market set for a national newscast?! Wild. I guess that they are, according to Variety.

Don't forget the BBC 10'oclock news and ITV's News At Ten (the first network to do so).

I agree. Glad they went with something simple and not as grand, if you will, as the DC set.

And just as I predicted, they did change the orientation of the set (… pats self on the back).

CBS Newscasts arent exactly first place outside of 60 Mins and Sunday Morning. IMO expanding news output doesn't make sense for CBS.

US broadcast television schedules are already saturated with local and national news. Yet another newscast would just be just more of the same: Trump, wildfires and the and the lastest mass shooting.

CBS is going for a national/local synergy look. Im not opposed to a local set design for national if it still looks good

I find the DC set pretty simple. Its just a room full of video walls, but it looked great once they darkened the graphics from light to navy blue for CBSEN.

Actually, Estrella TV airs a prime time news block consisting of flagship newscast Cierre de Edición at 10:00pm ET (previously at 10:30 until the end of 2023) and Estrella News’ 24 Horas at 10:30. (Both programs are rebroadcast back-to-back the hour after their initial broadcast.)

Univision and Telemundo both run hour-long news blocks in the 11:00pm ET hour (technically considered to be part of the “late fringe” slot); on both networks, the first half-hour is a rebroadcast of their respective flagship 6:30pm newscasts (since many of their stations run local news at 11:00/10:00) and the second half-hour is a standalone live broadcast. (Until 2021, Univision aired a condensed half-hour version of its daily newsmagazine Primer Impacto at 11:00, leading into Noticiero Univision: Edición Nocturna.)

The only English-language broadcast network that airs an evening newscast outside of the 6:30pm slot by default is MeritTV (Dr. Phil’s network), which runs their hour-long News on MeritTV at 7:00 and 10:00pm ET (though the latter is a rebroadcast of the earlier program).

One of those teasers ended with the Rather/modern-era signature. Whether of not they update it again, we'll see, but there won't be a return to the Couric or latter Pelley-era themes.

I'd be surprised if they didn't choose a network version of the Ant Food theme, to tie it all together. Though I swear to god, if they are using Lonnie Quinn and Maurice DuBois to push more New York featured stories to a national audience, it's going to bomb. Hint: Most of America doesn't live in NYC, in case you didn't know.

It sounds like they're shooting for something closer to 60 minutes. That's how Dubois described it. Nevertheless, I agree that whatever format is presented, they give it time and don't abandon it (for, as you said, New York featured stories). The vibe I'm getting is that they want to do what you would see at the local level (news, weather and a politics rundown (instead of sports). Could be wrong, but that's what my gut tells me.

Looking at the boarder picture, I like that CBS has attempted to break down the silos (60 minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, etc...) and create a common thread (through graphics, sets, formats, etc...) across not only CBS News, but also including the local CBS O&Os as part of the process. For too long, everybody did their own thing instead of working together as one. Glad that they see the value in 'synergy.'

I was under the impression that Maurice and John were doing split anchor duty. Are they set co-anchor together daily?

Sure seems like they're going to be anchoring together. Interested to see tomorrow and going forward.

CBC's the National underwent a massive reformat after the venerable Peter Mansbridge retired. They couldnt pick just one anchor so they chose 3 and 3 locations. But the format became very cerebral and clean and calm. New logo, new music new graphics. Everything. It had a very European look.  The format basically remained. But the 3 anchor/3 locations was ended. I imagine after a while CBS will probably start tinkering. Because the ratings wont immediately put in them in 1st place. We know they can leave things as they are.

CBS just aired a brief minute or so spot with a sneak peek of Maurice, John, & Meteorologist Lonnie Quinn during the last break of halftime of the AFC Championship. Sure does feel like it'll be a duel anchored show.
