MorningNews 1711 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Glad I’m not the only one feeling a bit sad about this. I took the long walk home today from work to go by there and it’s crazy to see it gone! Walking by the old GMA studios in TS is also stark. One of my favorite photos from outside of Peter Jennings Way. 2
GraphicsMan 345 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I don't think I got to see I may have seen the streets die studio before but it was revolutionary at the time.

GMA, Today, and The Early Show had been streetside for 12+ years by the time WABC debuted their corner set. At a local level, 3 stations in Chicago were in streetside space before WABC. Fox29 in Philly also comes to mind, predating New York. Revolutionary? Hardly. 1 2

WTVD in Raleigh was street side like WABC all newscast for a time came from there. They're now back in Durham.

Live at Five (Simmons and Lauer) also used the today studio for a bit before WABC’s street side studio - a former Disney Store.
24994J 5888 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 My point stands. WABC's was a nice set-up, but not pioneering a new concept. 1
Encore 323 79 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) In other news, Perry Russom made his debut on Eyewitness News Weekend Mornings on Saturday 1/24 just in time for the brutal winter storm that is hitting New York City and much of the country right now. https://youtu.be/-qmR1CeZ3g8?si=7vhMhBAObbmSiyr0 Edited January 25 by Encore 323

The interactive weather segments they do on that screen are just fantastic. Home base, the weather center, the soft set, the newsroom - all of it finally feels worthy for WABC. Makes me excited for what we’re about to see from KABC, who has always had the superior product of the two! 1

I always have mixed feelings on these kinds of things... On one hand he can point at things... on the other hand the things he's pointing at are necessarily a lot smaller on the screen than they would be in full screen with him narrating since he has to be able to point at them. 3-D graphical elements that are projected next to the person reporting that they can point at... those are more impressive. So if there was a car graphic sitting on the floor there... 1 1
RealNews18 271 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Not sure how long it’s been but noticed last night that Jeff Smith was using a green screen (or some sort of chromakey background) as opposed tot the typical virtual set. Not sure if it’s a production type choice or some sort of other issue
MediaZone4K 2660 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Mike and Sade in on a Sunday for pre blizzard coverage. 1
Vlad 406 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Yeah their top talent is on. Wild to see Lee Goldberg in early in the morning. Sam Champion wasn't around today. I guess he'll be back tomorrow haha.
MorningNews 1711 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Sade and Mike anchored a special Sunday 7pm hour of EWN, then anchored the 11pm hour with Lee Goldberg on weather. 4am start for Lee Goldberg, Brittany Bell and Dani Beckstrom. Pretty cool to see Lee with Shirleen, Pedro and Heather. Sade and Mike back for a special 2pm EWN. Channel 7’s coverage has been incredible. 2
WABC7NYFan 26 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 (edited) I guess Joe Torres no longer needs his glasses? Starting with the March 7th weekend newscast, he's been without them. Going to take a while to get accustomed to it. Edited March 17 by WABC7NYFan 3

NYAZSporty 196 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 In addition to being Chief Meteorolgist for Eyewitness News, as of yesterday, Lee Goldberg is also a senior Met for ABC which comes as no surprise considering he's made appearances frequently on World News Tonight whenever weather's a major story. Interesting timing alongside Leslie Lopez, meteorologist for West Coast ABC flagship KABC in Los Angeles joining the network in NYC on Friday. 1

Also, looking at the press release announcing Leslie Lopez being added to the network she might pop up to do forecasts on WABC as needed: https://www.detpress.com/abcnews/pressrelease/leslie-lopez-named-abc-news-meteorologist/ As it says: In this role, Lopez will work closely with ABC News’ chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee, “GMA” contributor and WABC-TV weather anchor Sam Champion, senior meteorologist and WABC-TV chief meteorologist Lee Goldberg, meteorologist Somara Theodore and the ABC News Weather, Climate & Science Unit across the ABC News Group for all programs and platforms, including “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight with David Muir,” the 24/7streaming news channel ABC News Live, ABC Owned Television Station WABC-TV and more.

That fact she’ll be doing work for WABC is a sign that ABC is trying to make this hire as affordable as possible kinda like the Perry Russom gig with WABC. So they’ll give her some local time. ABC hiring on the cheap here. 2 1

She's a good get and will be helpful with the schedule at WABC-TV, especially with Sam barely there. I mention this in the GMA thread, but I can't stand Sam Champion. He gets treated like royalty at ABC/GMA and I don't get it. He really doesn't contributing anything but being an nuisance and over the top laughter. 1 1

Broken record but it feels like Sam has been trying to get his GMA job back since his weather channel stint didn't work out. Too bad for him, Ginger Zee is firmly planted in her job.
