This would have been an amazing opportunity to drop the 58 and run with CBS Milwaukee (which they tried to do many years ago until a disgruntled employee bought the domain name at the last minute.)

That number is just going to hold them back. It makes them seem small and unimportant.

I used to wonder why some TV stations avoided big numbers in their brands... some even branding with their single digit cable position: example WZVN & WBBH. Perhaps your reasoning is why.

I don't  think it's a problem, especially if a station wants viewers to immediately know where they can find the station on the TV dial... of course in the age of digital, that importance is diminishing.

WDJT is also 5, 9, 605 and 1005 on cable and fiber systems in Milwaukee which, IMO, is another reason to ditch the 58 brand.

They can even flip call signs between their properties and have CBS Milwaukee on WMLW and ditch WDJT for their indy station.

Lots of interesting brand opportunities to consider but they’ve never been strong in marketing.

Anyway, to go back on topic, WDJT slightly modified the last O&O look for their morning show but they’ve kept the teal for this look.

I don't live in Milwaukee (although I have some family there), I'm liking the new WDJT look that they're using.  I don't honestly get the "anti-channel number"  branding sentiment that some of y'all have, but to each their own.  I'm still pretty much old-school when it comes to channel numbers, and yes, I'm well-aware of the current adage of the digital TV era and the technical aspects that come with it (RF vs. virtual), but there's still a segment of over-the-air viewers that still use and prefer the "traditional" channel numbers.  I subscribe to cable, but I also use over-the-air as a backup of means, so please save your lecturing nonsense...I get it, but I still preferred the old-school method of tuning-in channels, beyond that you're being condensing, but whatever.

Any other O&Os doing this yet? Just saw WCBS with a new "Super 7 Day Forecast."

  • My favorite part is that the low temperature is now aligned to show that it occurs in the morning. (When it was below the high temp, I think it was natural to assume it happens chronologically at night.)
  • Rain chance looks to be a permanent feature now. Other stations have been doing this forever. There's also a night percent which is kind of hard to read.
  • They also have the average high and low.
  • I'm not sure when it happened but they updated the icons at some point. When this look debuted, the weather conditions were too vague and seemed like background images,

I like having information but this seems rather cluttered now with a wide variety of font sizes, including some tiny text.

Previous look from the noon broadcast for comparison:

Edit: Strangely, they seemed to use the 7-day from the noon broadcast at 5:51 p.m. The old format, older numbers...image.thumb.png.1a42c0bdb952baa55416d218a4fd7c9b.png

I liked the KCAL News brand.  It was a bit jarring at first when they switched to KCAL branding full time, but I've grown to really like it.  But the eventual name change to CBS News Los Angeles was probably inevitable.

Yeah it was a mouthful. KCAL NEWS on CBS News LA etc..... I know they wanted uniform branding while sticking to a locally popular brand, but they just needed to commit to one thing.

Is "WBZ News Boston" new? (These screenshots are from the online stream so I'm not sure how this might look on TV.)

(Edit: Just did a quick search on their YouTube page and it looks like they made the switch on November 20th at 5pm.)

That's just for the graphics. I think every CBS O&O is switching to that style but keeping the same brandings in place. In this case, its still WBZ News.

EDIT: What I mean is the black box logo that some stations still have and I think they're trying to get rid of it once and for all, though stations like KOVR, KDKA, etc. may still go by what they call for already.

Because basic font white call letters in a back box was dumb from the get-go. All for this!

If you look closely, you can see the Westinghouse-era 4.

For the love bring back the Westinghouse 2 to KDKA

I'm not talking just the box... They seem to want to go by "WBZ News Boston" and leaving the "CBS News Boston" as the title for the streaming side.

Good catch! I did not notice that.

It's still unfortunate that the bug is so huge. I know they wanted it to be the same size as the network (special reports and the CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell) and the streaming (formerly called CBS News) but there's just so much wasted space.

Just noticed today that the KPIX Live Stream Bug is now rebranded as “CBS NEWS NORCAL then switching to CBS NEWS SEA to SIERRA.”

on air it’s still KPIX | CBS News Bay Area bug

also on the livestream that doesn’t show on air is the Bay Area and Sacramento counties bug seen below in the video.

and another note, during the stream breaks they merged PIX and KOVR newscast talent  ads together with a new “you’re watching CBS NORCAL” B-Roll

So They merged the CBSN stream for across 2 markets. Honestly, I would expand the coverage of CBS News Los Angeles to cover San Diego and call it CBS News SOCAL.

from the looks of it yes. The KPIX 8pm show is on air on KPIX+, however the stream is replaced by Sacramento Primetime from KOVR. Didn’t catch the 9pm edition but I’m guessing it’s the KPIX 8pm show replay…

Jerry Dunphy is probably rolling in his grave seeing the NorCal motto:  ”From Sea to Sierra.” 😆

Easier said than done in SoCal. In NorCal, there are two CBS O&O stations: KPIX- SF and KOVR- Sacramento. There isn't a CBS O&O station in San Diego. The CBS affiliate is now owned by Nexstar.

Counterpoint: CBS has no issue implying jurisdiction over the entire Lone Star State with KTVT's CBS Texas branding.

CBS News NorCal makes perfect since so does CBS News SoCal.

And probably because of some glitching out with the current ticker setup, KDKA temporarily switched back to the old ticker that launched with the package back in 2023.
