Interesting that Kate left to focus solely on News Now, but she was replaced by someone who also has a daily 2 hour show on News Now! Maybe they need to bring back John Seigenthaler…. Remember when he was ‘let go’ with budget cuts and replaced with Lester (who also anchored weekend today at that time)

Why do they need a different anchor for Sundays?  Why can't the Saturday anchor work both days and have a couple of weekdays off like Mondays / Tuesdays or Thursdays / Fridays?  Or find someone that can anchor on both Saturdays and Sundays while also contributing during the week without working everyday.

(Not that anyone wouldn't be happy to anchor a national evening newscast) but they might be  having trouble finding people who want to give up both days of their weekend.

Build the anchor bench twice as fast and it only takes those journalists out of the reporting mix one day per week as opposed to two.

Always interesting to see how networks handle wall to wall coverage on a weekend which is an atypical time for major breaking events. 

 

Lester was the only lead anchor on during the Saturday afternoon Trump shooting. It appears Jose Diaz Balart was on first then Lester took over coverage. Norah and David on CBS/ABC were not on (understandable as its the weekend). 

 

Whit Johnson lead ABC, Margaret Brennan lead CBS.

Adriana Diaz lead CBS News coverage and was later joined by Robert Costa and Brennan (who both took over for her). It's possible both Norah and David lead their respective newscasts tomorrow once more information becomes available.

Also interesting to note that MSNBC had virtually no anchors or separate coverage, they just simulcast NBC News' coverage with Lester.

Aside from a few shows like Ayman Mohyeldin, isn't most of their weekend repeats anyway?  And due to the gravity of the situation, it makes sense to simulcast the mothership.

Yes, was going to mention weekend repeats. The simulcast totally makes sense.

 

I'm not complaining that they didn't have separate coverage as it makes sense to consolidate resources on the weekend, I'm just surprised that they didn't opt to call in their commentators like Rachael Maddow as 90% of their airtime is devoted to Trump.

I don't know if NBC is doing any coverage at all on their affiliates but every other network (even FOX) is on now with Joe Biden dropping out of the race.  Does Nascar trump (no pun intended) any presidential news?

 

NBC News NOW is covering it like a standard special report while MSNBC is being MSNBC.

NBC News NOW is covering it like a standard special report while MSNBC is being MSNBC.

I did see NBC break in when it was first announced, with the NASCAR race shifting to USA.

Overall I think Nightly News needs better graphics, a better studio, and they need to tweak how they edit their packages. I appreciate their visual aids and graphics but sometimes their transitions are head spinning, it's almost ADHD pacing.

 

As for why NNN dropped to #2, I think it's the loss of Brian Williams. He had a very grand and narrative style of writing, which were exemplified in his anchor intros before packages. Lester Holt is more straight to the point.

Tom is the best choice to me. He's got that David Muir/Anderson Cooper dualism about him. In a suit discussing politics one minute, then out in the middle of a natural disaster in a black T-shirt the next.

I don't think that is 1A. The floor and the ceiling headers when the camera pans to the left seem to indicate this is another studio. My guess is that this is 4E. The low ceiling height and the headers would line up with 4E's structure. Back in 2016, they used 4E for Decision 2016 coverage. The glass wall separating the studio and the newsroom was removed and a single cohesive flooring spanning both spaces was put in place. From the quick video above, this appears to be a similar physical setup from eight years ago, but now with AR extensions.

Meet The Press was broadcast today from NBC's election coverage studio. It’s not 1A and I thought they would use the studio that will be WNJU. It must be the same one they will use in NN.
