Pedro did the first 15-20 minutes of the 10am from the newsroom (?), mentioning that he would join Shirleen and Brittany downstairs.

 

At noon, the opening was skipped, there was no music, and newscast began with David teasing the top stories. He clearly was sick (as could be heard via his raspy voice) and was anchoring solo. 
 

Sounds like technical difficulties today and staff shortages.

WABC-TV named John Antonio has Vice President of News starting April 29. He was previously the executive producer of the 5 and 6pm EWN editions, eventually moving on to CNN.

When did WABC start doing a 5pm talent intro? It’s nice to see and they used to only do the talent open for First@4 and 6pm but no 5pm.

They began airing 5pm talent opens when the new graphics debuted last year in January 2024. It’s the first weekday 5pm talent opens to air since Diana Williams retired in September 2019.

I’m just seeing the 10am soft set for the first time, this is such a remarkable improvement and sharp look for WABC. 
 

Gives me hope that the GMA set won’t be so bad.

With a few adjustments, the newscast it could all be from this space.

 

 

I liked it when I used the set like this when it first came out, differentiating from others newscasts.

Wow! Channel 7 has come a long way! The new Disney building has been an improvement for all shows that moved. 

Loving the neon lights and brick wall, it reminds me of Tegna's set design trends.

First time I think it's happened, Ike Ejiochi sat in at the anchor desk this past Sunday, filling in for Pedro.

And now Rhiannon Ally filling in for Pedro this Saturday with Michelle.

 

Just realized that they use white chairs at the desk for the AM shows and the dark blue chairs for PM shows.

I noticed these days that Mike Marza never fills in for Bill Ritter when he's not at 5pm and 6pm. Is there any logical reason for this?
(not that I mind, of course, I'm just curious)

Yesterday Sandra was there for Bill at 5pm, today we had David and Sandra at 5pm; Liz did both days at 6pm only.

 

I thought that because Mike was Bill's soon-to-be replacement, he would be his immediate replacement on his time off.

Mike was out covering the Diddy trial yesterday. Not sure about today but yesterday he did several reports for all evening shows.

Maybe for now this is what the producers feel is right for the show. Also each broadcast is operated by different producers and etc, so what may work for the 11pm broadcast probably doesn't work for the 4, 5 and 6 broadcasts, which I also believe are different, etc..

I just checked, and last Sunday and yesterday, it was Toni Yates. They should give her the weekend morning gig. She's been their fill-in a lot and seems worthy of doing so permanently. Plus, it wouldn't be her first permanent anchoring gig of her career (she's done WPHL when it was WB 17).

I agree on Toni Yates. Maybe WABC wants to utilize her more as reporter, but I think she is perfect next to Michelle (and I think she should have gotten that seat a long time ago).

Looks like they're taking a page from WCBS with national personalities filling in on the weekend.

 

Unless Yates doesn't want it, it's beyond past due for Toni to weekend anchor. She's got the perfect personality and she was great with Michelle, and she was great whenever she filled next to Rob Nelson.

He’s been on for a few moths now. According to a post on his social media Shannon had knee surgery and would be out for a few months. John D has also been on in the afternoons
